What kind of city hotel is Hyatt Regency Kyoto Hotel?
If this is your first visit to Kyoto, you may want to stay here. Access to the property is easy from Kyoto Station by taxi. If there’s no traffic, it’ll take about five minutes. Alternatively, if you don’t have enough time to spend in Kyoto, I would recommend it. The location would be almost perfect if you explore around Higashiyama area. There are many famous spots near the property.
All in all, the hotel lacks the sense of luxury that is found in today’s ultra-luxury foreign hotels, but I think it is a comfortable hotel with a simple and elegant interior. From the point of view of enjoying your time at the hotel, it is undeniable that it is a bit lacking, but I think it can meet the demands of those who want to spend a relaxing and comfortable time at the hotel to a high standard.
The overall quality of the hotel is not as good as Park Hyatt Kyoto, which is located nearby and opened in 2019. However, they are in different price ranges, so a simple comparison should be avoided.
As you enter the lobby, the indirect lighting on the characteristic wooden ceiling is very impressive.
Then the rooms in this hotel are decorated in such a way that they contain a simple yet somewhat sophisticated liveliness. The arrangement is in the standard form of a hotel room, not very spacious, but I personally think it is an excellent and unique room.
If I had to pick a drawback, it would be that although the hotel is located in the Higashiyama area, it is close to Kyoto Station, so you may not get as much of a Kyoto to feel as in the Gion area. However, it is a wonderful location as the famous temples and the Kyoto National Museum are within walking distance and Gion is only a 5-minute cab ride away. The nearest train station is a 10-minute walk away, so a cab ride is recommended.
Then the hotel does not have a swimming pool, hot spring, or large bath, etc. It’s hard to say that the facilities in the hotel are excellent.
Is the location easy to access?
Access to public transportation is not good, but it takes about 5 minutes to get to Gion or Kyoto Station by cab. If you take the train, get off at Shichijo Station and it is a 10-minute walk to the hotel from there.
Then you can take an MK taxi for free from the Hachijoguchi Exit of Kyoto station to the hotel only once during your stay. If you need more information, email at email@example.com

Rooms I would recommend?
If you are going to stay here, I would recommend a room with a balcony. You can see the Kyoto National Museum from the balcony. Also, this room has a wooden bathtub where you can relax and enjoy while soaking in the bath.
Overall it seems that most of the rooms tend to be cramped. Also, some rooms don’t have nice views.
The building itself is old, completed in 1980, but the interior hardly shows its age, which is very easy to use.
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, pajamas, bathrobes, yukatas, and a green tea set. You can travel light. Then room service is available for 24H. Also, a DVD player, a CD player, a Blu-Ray player, and a humidifier were placed in our room. The free WiFi reception was sometimes slow when I used it in my room. There are some convenience stores nearby.
Then this is child-friendly. The staff offers baby cots, bed guards, and amenities for small children if you request in advance. Sleeping with children up to 12 years old is free of charge.

How about In-house Facilities?
This is a perfect universal design. Wheelchairs are available for borrowing. If you bring someone with weak legs, you may want to inform the staff in advance as they arrange a room near the lift.
Then the gym and saunas are available for free for 24H. You need to bring your own sportswear, shoes, T-shirts, etc.
There is no club lounge, etc., but as a substitute, there is a one-drink service that can be used at any restaurant or bar in the hotel.
Then there is a spa treatment shop. It’s open between 10:00 and 19:00. I tried acupuncture and shiatsu treatments at RIRAKU Spa. I am happy to say that the price range is not very high. Personally, I found the staff to be highly skilled. If you have a treatment service, you need to make an appointment by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org
Then you can watch Maiko’s traditional dance in the lobby every evening from 18:15.

How about meals?
There are some wonderful restaurants in the hotel. I would recommend Trattoria Sette and THE GRILL. We stayed here for 2 nights, but I never got bored with the food. Locals also seem to use the restaurants, so you might want to make reservations for dinner in advance.
Then the buffet-style breakfast at The Grill was good but I believe a bit more selection of food should be available to this standard of hotel and price.
Then, as far as I know, there aren’t almost restaurants within walking distance. The hotel is located in a residential area. If you go out for meals, you need to go around Kyoto station or the Gion area by taxi or train.
Then most of the restaurants in Kyoto city are open from 11:00 AM except for fast food shops so you may want to book a room with breakfast at least.
Overall, the hotel is highly functional and convenient, making it a great choice for business and weekend trips.
Lastly, if you stay at this hotel, don’t forget to do some early morning sightseeing around Kiyomizu Temple. It is about a 20-minute walk from the hotel or less than 5 minutes by cab. Kiyomizu Temple is open from 6:00 in the morning. As you know, Kiyomizu Temple is always crowded in the daytime, but before 8:00 AM, there are hardly any people there. You can see “True Kyoto”. It’s worth a visit.
