What kind of resort hotel is Agora Fukuoka Hilltop Hotel & Spa?
If you are looking for a boutique modern resort hotel with a nice view of Fukuoka city, I would recommend it. There are 48 rooms only. Alternatively, if relaxation is your main purpose, you may want to stay here.
The resort hotel is not luxurious, but the ambiance is very cozy. There is a nice Italian restaurant, gym, spa treatment shop, and communal baths. The spring water is gentle and smooth on the skin.
Then if you are going to stay in this resort hotel, it’s very important to choose the right room. The one I would recommend the most is the Wellness Suite with a balcony on the third floor. There is nothing better than relaxing on the balcony with a glass of champagne in hand and a view of Fukuoka City. Overall, the facilities are a bit run down, but the suite is very relaxing.
Then all the rooms on the 6th floor have been renovated in 2020, but the rest of the rooms on the 1st to 3rd floors are a bit worn out.
Then there are a few rooms on the first through third floors that do not have a nice view. I wouldn’t recommend standard rooms.
The hotel would be great for couples, solo travelers, or small groups, but not business persons because the location is not so convenient. It takes 20min by taxi from Hakata Station. It costs around JPY2,000.

Is the location easy to access?
Alternatively, take Airport Line from Hakata Station or Fukuokakuko Station(Airport) and get off at Tenjin Station. Then walk for about 10 minutes to Tenjin-Minami Station and take Nanakuma Line. Get off at Sakurazaka station. The hotel is about a 15-minute walk from Sakurazaka Station. It’s located on a hill, so walking from the station is not recommended due to the hilly terrain. A cab will take about 5 minutes and cost less than JPY1000 from Sakurazaka Station.
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, samue outfits, Japanese sweets, a coffee machine with capsules, bottled water, and a green tea set, etc. When we stayed in the Wellness Suite on 3F, a complimentary mini-bar with champagne, beer, soft drinks, etc was available. Also, skincare products will be given to you when you check in.
Then, you can choose from four different colors of samue outfits when you check in. DVD players, air cleaners, desk lights, and transformers, etc., are available for borrowing if you request in advance. Free Wifi reception was good on the property. There is a vending machine. There is no convenience store within 5min walk distance. You may want to buy your necessities before coming here.
Then, this is child-friendly. Staff provides meals, tableware, and chairs for children if you request in advance.
How about In-house Facilities?
There are communal baths using spring water on 3F. They are not hot springs but it was so refreshing after a long day out. They are open from 6:00 to 24:00. *If you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the communal bathing area.
Then a gym with a nice view is available for free between 6:00 and 22:00. You may want to bring your own shoes and sportswear if you use the gym.
Also, there is a library, souvenir shop, and spa treatment shop. If you have a treatment service, you need to make an appointment by 8:00 p.m. the day before. The spa shop is open between 10:00 and 24:00.

Then the hotel is a universal design. Wheelchairs are available for borrowing. If you bring someone with weak legs, you may want to inform the staff in advance as they can arrange a room near the lift.
How about meals?
There are Italian, Japanese, and garden terrace restaurants on 5F. We fully enjoyed the Italian cuisine for dinner at MAIN DINING CABANA on 5F while seeing a peaceful night view. Most of the dishes are used a lot of fresh local ingredients. The food is sophisticated.

Then the western buffet-style food for breakfast and lunch at the restaurants was also wonderful. Overall, the price range of the restaurants is reasonable. It seems that many local people visit here for family gatherings, celebrations, or parties, etc., especially weekends and Japan’s public holidays. You need to book a table if you visit here.
Room service is also available for dinner and lunch. Sushi, udon, salad, beef curry, rice balls, pasta, etc. Room service for lunch 11:30-14:30, dinner 18:00-21:00
As far as I know, there is no nice restaurant, cafe, or convenience shop near the property.
On weekends or when events are held at the hotel, there may be a shortage of staff. If you expect 5-star hotel service, this is not for you.
The hotel is very popular among local people all year round. If you want to chill out in a tranquil atmosphere, you may want to stay on weekdays. Also, you may want to avoid staying during Lunar New Year, late April to early May, and the end of year and New Year holiday.
At last, don’t forget to check the weather forecast before booking a room. If it’s fine, just go ahead. You can see a nice view while relaxing at the café on 5F. That’s precious time.
*Please note that check-in starts at 17:00 and check-out is by 13:00
