I would say that the ryokan tends to be a bit pricey because of the world heritage site. This wouldn’t be luxury. To be frank, the ryokan wouldn’t bring out fond feelings. However, it’s worth staying here. The property tends to be not outdated if compared to others on the island. If you are the first time stay at ryokans, I would also highly recommend it. You won’t feel any stress at all during your stay. Overall staff wouldn’t be sophisticated. But I guess it’s OK as here is in Miyajima island. Also, the food experience for dinner is simply wonderful, but breakfast here wouldn’t be special. If you are going to stay here, I would highly recommend booking a room with views of the sea. You will be able to view the pagoda from a room. If you have some problems when you use Japanese-style mattresses in tatami rooms, you might want to request two mattress layers to avoid having a backache in advance. I hope you could get sleep well on tatami mats. Then there are small public baths on the rooftop. If you can see the beautiful sunset while soaking in a bath, you must be so lucky. Some issues are that there is no hot spring on-site. Also, the location is amazing, but it seems that the building has no enough soundproofing facilities. My ears sometimes caught the noise of traffic. Also, the entrance of the property is on the shopping street, not along the coast. We couldn’t find it easily. Then WiFi reception was very weak when we used it in the room. That’s too bad. Then check-in time is supposed to be from 4:00 PM. We had to wait until 4 PM in the lobby. 3:00 PM would be very common in Japan though. Anyway, the best season to stay here would be in spring or fall. You will be able to see the most beautiful landscapes around here with the Itsukushima shrine. That’s really awesome! On the other hand, I wouldn’t recommend visiting here in the summer season. The weather is extremely hot between early July to mid Sep more than you expect. You might feel reluctant to walk outside. On top of that, the island would be very busy. Because there are some local summer festivals here. Also, it’s typhoon season between mid Aug to late Sep. All ferries would be suspended if powerful typhoons hit Hiroshima. You might have to cancel a hotel reservation as well. I hope the weather’s good. At last, if you are interested in the property, I would also recommend Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto. Have a nice trip!
