What kind of resort hotel is Jozankei Tsuruga Resort Spa Mori no Uta?
This is a boutique resort hotel with hot springs in Jozankei Onsen, Hokkaido. There are 54 rooms only. The resort wouldn’t be luxury, but absolutely this is a lovely place. Once we arrived at the property, the harp live performance made us feel so relaxed and the staff escorted us to a cozy room immediately. The ambiance is tranquil, friendly, and family-oriented. If you are a couple or a solo traveler, you may want to stay on weekdays. It seems that there are many families with children in the resort hotel on weekends and Japan’s public holidays. This is very popular among local people as well. On top of that, the property has great value for money.

Is the location easy to access?
Yes, it would be easy from Sapporo city. The free shuttle service is available from Sapporo Makomanai Bus Stop near Makomanai Station at 10:30, 14:30, or 16:30. *Go out Subway South Exit and cross a signal, then the Bus Stop is nearby “Green color fence”. It takes 60min by car. Refer to the info. You need to book it by 17:00 one day before. Don’t miss the shuttle bus. It takes 22min by train from Sapporo Station to Makomanai Station.
Rooms I would recommend?
If you are going to stay here, I would recommend booking a room with an outdoor private hot spring. The room is spacious, user-friendly, and functional. On the other hand, I wouldn’t recommend standard rooms. The rooms tend to be cramped and there is no nice view. Then, if you are a light sleeper, you should avoid staying in rooms near the lifts. It seems that the building has no latest soundproofing system. Your ear may catch some noise, such as people talking in the hallways, slamming doors, or footsteps, etc. When you book a room, don’t forget to request “a quiet room”. Facilities tend to be worn-out, but the housekeeping was excellent.
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, a green tea set, samue outfits, sweets, and a coffee machine. Also, a massager, an air cleaner, an audio system, and a Blu-Ray were placed in our room. Free Wi-Fi reception was basically good, but sometimes patchy at night. There are skincare products in the bathroom. Room service is not available. There are many kinds of pillows in the pillow section you can choose. It’s open from 16:00-20:00. Then, this is a perfect child-friendly. Staff provides baby baths, bed guards, couffins, yukatas, chairs, and amenities for small children if you request in advance.

How about In-house Facilities?
There are wonderful large communal indoor and outdoor hot springs. All of them are open from 11:30-9:30 the following morning. There is no private family bath. *If you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the communal bathing area. Then there are vending machines for drinks including beer. There is a convenience store nearby. Also, there is a souvenir shop, a bar, and a laundromat in the property. Then the resort is a universal design. There are some rooms for wheelchair users. If you bring people with weak feet, you should book a room with an outdoor private hot spring as you wouldn’t need to move around once you enter your room. Wheelchairs are available for borrowing. Then this is pet-friendly. There are some rooms where you can stay with your dogs. There is a lift for dogs in the property which you can use. Also, there is a small dog park.

How about meals?
There are two restaurants in the property, one is buffet-style, the other is Japanese kaiseki cuisine. We tried western Japanese and Chinese buffet. The food is simply fantastic. The buffet is quite extensive for a small hotel. There was always more than enough food each day. We stayed here for 3 nights, but we never got tired of food. Don’t forget to bring your empty stomach. If you are a couple or a solo traveler, you may want to have Kaiseki cuisine on 2F. The ambiance would be serene if compared to the buffet restaurant. Then after dinner, don’t forget to visit the bar and the lounge. You can chill out while baking marshmallows in the fireplace. That’s precious time. Then, as far as I know, there is no nice restaurant around here. You may want to book a room with meals.
The staff tends to be friendly, but they look so busy especially on weekends. If you expect 5-star hotel service, this is not. If you relax in a tranquil atmosphere, you may want to avoid staying during Lunar New Year, late April to early May, weekend in Oct and Nov, and the end of the year and New Year holiday. Have a nice trip! Welcome to receive any questions about the resort. If you check-in after 19:00, you may want to inform the staff in advance.
