What kind of city hotel is La Vista Hakodate Bay?
The property wouldn’t be luxury, but very cozy. If you love very fresh seafood, such as salmon roe, cod roe, and Japanese scallop, etc., I would recommend La Vista Hakodate Bay. The western Japanese buffet-style for breakfast is simply wonderful. The local seafood was absolutely divine. Perhaps, if you are a hot spring freak, you should stay here. There is a variety of outdoor hot springs with peaceful views of Hakodate city. The ambiance is friendly, family-oriented, and lively. The hotel would be great for family, groups, couples, solo travelers, or business persons.

Rooms I would recommend?
If you are going to stay here, you may want to book a spacious room as much as possible. Most of the rooms tend to be cramped. Also, I would recommend Mt.Hakodate-side rooms on a high floor. You can see great night views from rooms. Some rooms have no nice view. Overall, it would be darker. The facility shows a sign of age, but not a point where it affects our comfort. The housekeeping was good. Free WiFi reception was bad in our room when we stayed in 2018, but we could connect to the internet around the lobby only. Also, there are two PCs in the lobby to use someone.
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, samue outfits, a coffee mill with coffee beans, a green tea set, and bottled water, etc. Complimentary coffee, hot chocolate, and milk matcha, etc., are available in the lobby from 14:00-17:00. Also complimentary ice pop is available near the communal baths area. Room service is not available. There is a convenience store near the property. Then this is child-friendly. Staff provides pajamas, amenities, meals, and strollers for small children if you request in advance.
How about In-house Facilities?
There are wonderful indoor and outdoor communal hot springs on the top floor. They are open from 15:00-10:00 the following morning. The spring quality is perfect, very smooth, soft, and moist. *Please note that if you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the communal bathing area. Then La Vista Hakodate Bay is a universal design. Wheelchairs are available for borrowing. There are three lifts. If you bring people with weak feet, you may want to inform the staff in advance as they can arrange a room near the lift.

How about meals?
Western Japanese buffet-style breakfast is one of the best in Japan. The buffet is quite extensive. There was always more than enough food each day. Don’t forget to bring your empty stomach. The breakfast is between 6:30 and 10:00 at the restaurant on 2F. You may want to have breakfast after 9:00 AM. There would be a long line in front of the restaurant before 9:00 AM. Then there are many local restaurants for lunch and dinner around the property. The location is very convenient when you go out for meals.
The staff tends to be more like typical chain hotels rather than the signature Japanese hospitality with a personal touch. Overall, the price range would be reasonable, but everywhere in the hotel would be crowded because it’s very popular in Hakodate. If you want to relax here in a tranquil atmosphere, you may want to stay on weekdays. Also, you may want to avoid staying during Lunar New Year, late April to early May, the third week of July to late Aug, and the end of the year and New Year holiday. Then please note that there would be long lines at the reception from 9:00-10:00 and 15:00-16:00. When you check-in and out, you may want to avoid during those time slots. Have a nice trip!
