Midorinokaze Resort Kitayuzawa

Midorinokaze Resort Kitayuzawa

What kind of resort hotel is Midorinokaze Resort Kitayuzawa?

This is a resort spa hotel.  The resort is not luxurious, but good value for money.  If it is your first visit to Hokkaido, this is one of the best.  Access to the property would be very easy from New Chitose Airport.  Perhaps if you bring children, the resort would be perfect.  This is child-friendly.  Staff provides some items for small children, such as baby rooms with cribs, strollers, yukatas, and meals, etc. if you request in advance.   The ambiance is family-oriented, cozy, and lively.  The resort would be great for family, friends, or groups, but not solo travelers or not romantic couples.

Is the location easy to access?

Yes, shuttle service is available from New Chitose Airport or Sapporo Station.  It costs 1,000JPY from the airport.  It’s complimentary from Sapporo station.  You need to book it in advance.  It takes 100min from the airport.  It takes 150min from the Sapporo Station.  Alternatively, if you visit from JR Datemonbetsu Station, you need to take a Donan Bus for Otaki-higashi-danchi or Kutchan-eki-mae via Kitayuzawa Onsen and get off at Shiraginu-no-Toko Bus Stop.  It takes around 50min.  You may be worried where you should get off, so you may want to show the below Japanese sentence to a bus driver when you get on a bus.

Please let me know when you reach “Shiraginu-no-Toko Bus Stop”
Then, if you take a taxi from JR Datemonbetsu Station, it takes 30min.  To be frank, I wouldn’t recommend taking a public bus from the station if this is your first visit to Hokkaido because it may be a bit complicated.  You may want to use the shuttle service provided by the resort as much as possible.  Then if you visit in the winter season, you may want to avoid driving a car.  Due to heavy snow, the roads around the property may be closed to traffic.

Rooms I would recommend?

If you are going to stay here, I would recommend the executive rooms with private indoor hot springs.  The room is spacious, functional, and relaxed.  Facilities tend to be a bit worn-out.

How about toiletries & in-room amenities?

All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, yukatas, samue outfits, a green tea set, and tea bags, etc.  Room service is not available.  Free WiFi reception was available around the lobby only when we stayed in 2018.  You can get a password to connect to the internet when you check-in.  Also, I noticed that some PCs were placed to use someone on 1F.

How about In-house Facilities?

There are large indoor communal hot springs.  I was so surprised that there were many kinds of communal outdoor hot springs.  It may be impossible to try all of them unless you stay here for several days.  All of them are open from 15:00-11:00 the following morning.  *Please note that if you have tattoos and want to use the communal hot springs, book executive rooms with private ones instead.  There is no private family hot spring in-house.  There are a convenience store, a laundromat, and some vending machines for drinks.   Then the resort is a perfect universal design.  There are six rooms for wheelchair users.  Also, wheelchairs are available for borrowing.

How about meals?

The food experience was good.  There are three restaurants in the property, Japanese kaiseki, an Italian&French restaurant called “ZEN”, and a buffet-style restaurant.  If you are a gourmet, I would recommend ZEN.  The portion tends to be big.  You need to book a table in advance.  Then the buffet-style restaurant may be crowded and it tends to be a bit noisy.  If you want to have meals in a tranquil atmosphere, you should avoid the buffet-style restaurant.   The breakfast buffet was quite extensive.  There was always more than enough food every day.  Then, as far as I know, there is no nice restaurant around the property.  It’s out of the way.  You may want to book a room including meals.

My impressions

The staff tends to be patchy and they always looked so busy.  Their hospitality would be more like typical chain hotels.  If you want to relax in a tranquil atmosphere, you may want to stay on weekdays.  Also, you may want to avoid staying during Lunar New Year, late April to early May, the third week of July to late Aug, weekend in Oct and Nov, and the end of the year and New Year holiday.  The property would be very popular more than you expect.  Have a nice trip!  Welcome to receive any questions about Midorinokaze Resort Kitayuzawa from the below space.  You need to inform the staff of your expected arrival time in advance.  Check availability and pricing for the resort on Booking.com or Agoda
