Okujozankei Onsen Kasho Gyoen

Okujozankei Onsen Kasho Gyoen

What kind of resort hotel is Okujozankei Onsen Kasho Gyoen?

This is a small luxury modern hotel.  If you are looking for luxury boutique hotels with private hot springs in Jozankei Onsen, Hokkaido, you should stay here.  Each room has an amazing private hot spring.  This is like a secret hideaway for adults.  There are 23 rooms only.  We hardly met other guests even though it was fully booked.  On the other hand, if you are looking for luxury authentic onsen ryokans, this is not.  The ambiance is serene, tranquil, and relaxed.  The property would be great for couples, solo travelers, family, or small groups.

Is the location easy to access?

Access to the property would be a bit inconvenient unless you have a car.  It seems that most guests visit by car.  I noticed that there were many rental cars in the parking lot.  If you use public transportation, get on a  Donan Bus at Sapporo-ekimae bus terminalRefer to the time table.  Then get off at Usubetsu Bus Stop.  It takes around 60min.  Then just a few minutes walk to the property.  The bus far is JPY960 per adult.  If this is your first visit to Hokkaido, you may be worried about where you should get off a bus.  You may want to show the below Japanese sentence to a bus driver when you get on a bus.  Then if you visit Hokkaido in the winter season, I wouldn’t recommend driving a car due to heavy snow.

Kindly let me know when you reach “Usubetsu Bus Stop”

Where is the best accommodation for anniversaries in Hokkaido?

If you are looking for venues for special occasions, the property would be perfect.  The staff arranges flowers and cakes to celebrate an anniversary at additional charges if you request in advance.

Rooms I would recommend?

Okujozankei Onsen Kasho Gyoen
If you are going to stay here, I would recommend booking a room with a balcony.  You can enjoy white noise from the forest and starry sky, such as the extraordinary experience in rich nature.  Facilities are the latest as it opened in June 2018.  The room with spacious windows is modern, user-friendly, and functional.  We spent a lot of time jumping in and out of our private bath until check-out time.  The water temperature tends to be a bit high.  The spring quality is creamy, soft, and moist.

How about toiletries & in-room amenities?

All of the amenities were taken care of including enough toiletries, a coffee machine with capsules, pajamas, yukatas, bathrobes, tea bags, and a complimentary minibar.  You can travel light.  A Bluetooth speaker and a humidifier were placed in our room.   The Free WiFi reception was unstable on the property.  Also, this is child-friendly.  Staff provides baby cribs, strollers, tableware, meals, and yukatas if you request in advance.

How about In-house Facilities?

Unluckily, there are no communal and no private family baths on-site.  Then there is a cozy lounge on 2F.  Complimentary coffee is available at the lounge.  Also complimentary coffee, tea, baked cake, rice balls, and miso soup, etc., are available at night.  There is no convenience store nearby.  You might want to buy your necessities before coming here.  Then the hotel is a universal design and there is one room for wheelchair users.  A wheelchair is available for borrowing.  If you bring people with weak feet, you might want to inform the staff in advance as they can arrange a room near the lift.  There are some vending machines for drinks, snacks, cup noodles, and cigarettes in-house.

How about meals?

Italian food experience using a lot of local ingredients for dinner was just divine.  If you are a gourmet, you should try it.  The food tends to be sophisticated.  They have a nice wine list to complement the meal.  Japanese cuisine for breakfast was wonderful as well.  The portion tends to be small.  Breakfast starts from 7:00-9:00.  Dinner starts at 17:30 or 19:00.  All meals are served in a dining area.  If you bring small children, all meals are served in a private room.  *Please note that inform staff in advance if you have any food allergies.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request it on that day.  Then, as far as I know, there is no nice restaurant around the property.  The location is out of the way.  You may want to book a room including meals.  After dinner, don’t forget to visit the bar on 2F.  The ambiance is awesome for adults.

My impressions

The staff tends to be patchy.  If you expect 5-star hotel service, this is not.  The hardware is clearly outstanding but the software, personnel, and service are not of the same class.  If you cannot find English speakers at the reception, you might want to write on paper what you want to say.  Most of the young staff would understand English sentences.  I hope you don’t mind.  Overall the property has good value for money if compared to Hakone, Izu, or Arima Onsen, etc.  At last, don’t forget to take a walk in the large garden.  If you are lucky, you can see wild foxes, deer, squirrels, and raccoon dogs, etc.  Have a nice trip!  Welcome to receive any questions about Okujozankei Onsen Kasho Gyoen from the below space.  Check Availability and Pricing for the hotel on Agoda or Booking.com
