Shikotsuko Daiichi Hotel Suizantei

Shikotsuko Daiichi Hotel Suizantei

What kind of onsen ryokan is Shikotsuko Daiichi Hotel Suizantei?

Shikotsuko Daiichi Hotel Suizantei
This is a luxury authentic ryokan near New Chitose airport.  If you want to enjoy awesome outdoor hot springs in beautiful nature, you should stay here.  Most of the rooms have amazing private hot springs with small gardens.  This is like a hideaway for adults.  There are 29 rooms only.  Absolutely the ryokan completely emphasizes private experiences for each guest.  We hardly saw other guests during our stay.  The property would be great for couples, solo travelers, business persons, small groups, or family.  *A minimum age requirement of 13 applies.   The ambiance is serene, elegant, and tranquil.

Is the location easy to access?

Yes, it would be easy.  The location is 40 minutes’ drive away from New Chitose airport.  Free shuttle service is available from JR Chitose Station at 14:00.  You need to book it in advance.  It would be very convenient even if this is your first time visiting Hokkaido.  Don’t miss the shuttle bus.  If you take a taxi from the airport, it costs around JPY7,800.

Rooms I would recommend?

If you are going to stay here, I would recommend rooms with private outdoor hot springs and small gardens.  We truly felt the luxury and authenticity at once.  You wouldn’t need to go out until check-out time.  On the other hand, I wouldn’t recommend rooms without private outdoor hot springs.  They wouldn’t be special.  Overall, the room is spacious, functional, and user-friendly.  The décor is excellent Japanese minimalistic.  The housekeeping was great.

How about toiletries & in-room amenities?

All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, samue outfits, yukatas, tea bags, a coffee machine with capsules, and bottled water, etc.  Also, there were POLA amenities in the bathroom.  Room service is not available.  Free WiFi reception was good in the ryokan when we stayed in April 2019.

How about In-house Facilities?

There are wonderful indoor and outdoor communal hot springs and saunas.  The spring quality is very creamy, thick, and moist.  The water temperature tends to be lukewarm.  They are open from 12:00-25:00, 26:00-10:00.  Also, there are two private family hot springs.  They cost JPY3,300 for 40min, JPY4,950 for 60min.  They are open from 6:00-9:40, 15:00-23:40.  You need to book them in advance if you want to use.  *If you have tattoos and want to use the communal baths, use reserved private family ones instead.  Then complimentary coffee and tea are available at the lobby lounge.  Also, complimentary Chinese tea is available at the salon lounge on 2F.  You can chill out at the terrace while viewing peaceful mountains.  Then Shikotsuko Daiichi Hotel Suizantei is not a perfect universal design, but there are few steps.  Wheelchairs are available for borrowing.  If you bring people with weak feet, you may want to inform the staff in advance as they can arrange a room near the lift.  Then there is a vending machine for drinks and a souvenir shop on 1F.  There is no convenience store nearby.  You may want to buy your necessities before coming here.

How about meals?

The Japanese kaiseki food experience was good, but it may be a little challenging for the western palate.  The restaurant is a traditional Japanese-style house.  It has a quaint atmosphere.  Dinner starts from 17:30 to 19:30.  If you stay in a room with a private outdoor hot spring and a small garden, you can choose either your room or a private room in the restaurant.  If you stay in other rooms, basically all meals are served in the dining area.  Then, complimentary sushi pockets for a night snack were served at the lobby lounge.  After dinner, don’t forget to visit the bar on 1F.  The ambiance was so nice for adults.  Then local food buffet-style breakfast was great.  The buffet was not so extensive, though.  Breakfast was served in the dining area.  It starts at 7:00-8:00.  After breakfast, complimentary croissants, Danish pastries, coffee, and tea were served at the lobby lounge.  It couldn’t be better.  *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day.  Then, as far as I know, there wouldn’t be nice restaurants around the property.  Local papa-mama shops are closing early.  You may want to book a room including meals unless you have a car.

My impressions

All staff tends to be not sophisticated, but friendly.  Overall, the price range would be reasonable.  If you want to get much of an immersive luxury authentic ryokan experience, it’s well worth staying at Shikotsuko Daiichi Hotel Suizantei.  Have a nice trip!  Welcome to receive any questions about the property from the below space.  *If you check-in after 18:30, you need to inform staff in advance.  Check Availability and Pricing for the ryokan on Agoda or
