What kind of onsen ryokan is Hatori?
This is a typical onsen ryokan in Yamashiro Onsen. Hatori is not luxury, but truly relaxed. On top of that, the property has great value for money. The ambiance is serene, tranquil, and family-oriented. The property would be great for couples, families, small groups, or solo travelers.

Is the location easy to access?
Yes, it would be easy from Kagaonsen Station. Free shuttle service is available from the station between 13:30 and 18:00. You need to book it in advance. It takes 30min by train from Kanazawa Station to Kagaonsen Station.
Rooms I would recommend?
If you are going to stay here, I would recommend the superior or deluxe rooms in Fuji Tower. Facilities tend to be the latest. The room tends to be spacious, functional, and charming. The décor is “Japan minimalistic”. If you don’t want to sleep on Japanese-style mattresses in tatami rooms, you may want to book a room with twin beds on tatami mats. If you want to enjoy soaking in a private outdoor bath whenever you like, you should stay in a room with a private outdoor one. This is not a hot spring, though. On the other hand, I wouldn’t recommend standard rooms in Hagi tower as it seems that facilities tend to be worn-out.
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including minimum toiletries, yukatas, and a Japanese tea set, etc. There are colorful yukatas for women which you can choose from. Then Hatori is child-friendly. Staff provides items for small children, such as yukatas, meals, and futons, etc. Room service is not available. The free WiFi reception was a bit slow in the property. I noticed that a PC was placed to use someone in the lobby.
How about In-house Facilities?
There are wonderful indoor and outdoor communal hot springs in-house. There is no nice view from the outdoor baths, though. The spring quality is soft, thick, and moist. The water temperature tends to be lukewarm. They are open from 5:00 to 25:00. Also, there are two indoor private family hot springs. It costs JPY1,080 for 50min. You may want to book by e-mail in advance if you want to use the private baths. They are so popular and open from 7:00 to 23:00. Then you can use communal large hot springs and the swimming pool on the rooftop in the sister inn, Rurikoh. It takes just 5min on foot. They are open for 24h. The sky garden pool is open during the summer season only from 8:00 to 19:00. *If you have tattoos and want to use the communal hot springs, use reserved private family ones instead, or book a room with an outdoor private bath. Then Hatori is almost a universal design. A wheelchair is available for borrowing. If you bring people with weak feet, you may want to inform the staff in advance as they can arrange a room near the lift. Then, there are vending machines for ice cream, drinks, and cigarettes. There is a convenience store within walking distance. *Please note that drinks from outside are prohibited.

How about meals?
Kaga kaiseki food experience for dinner and breakfast was simply wonderful. All ingredients are so fresh, testy, and exquisite. If you are a gourmet, you should try it. The portion tends to be average. After dinner, some rice balls for a night snack were served in our room. All meals are served in your room, a private room, or a dining area. Dinner starts from 18:00 to 19:00. If you have dinner on the property, you need to check-in by 19:00. Breakfast starts from 7:00 to 9:00. *Please note that inform staff in advance if you have any food allergies or dietary needs. They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day. Alternatively, you can go out for meals as there are some local restaurants around there. You should ask the staff about the recommended ones. After dinner, don’t forget to watch a Japanese drum performance held from 20:40. That’s really interesting.
How about the staff?
The most important I would like to highlight is the staff is really helpful, proactive, and friendly. I’m sure that you can experience signature Japanese hospitality with a personal touch. I was so impressed that the landlady in her mid-90s was greeting with a smile to all guests at the entrance from the early morning every day. Then if you cannot find English speakers, you might want to write on paper what you want to say. Most of the young staff would understand English sentences. I hope you don’t mind.
Overall, for this price, the performance of the service, amenities, and food was above expectations. It’s well worth staying here. At last, the property would be popular and there are many return guests. If you want to chill out at Hatori in a tranquil atmosphere, you may want to avoid staying during Lunar New Year, late April to early May, weekend in Oct and Nov, and the end of the year and New Year holiday. Have a nice trip! Welcome to receive any questions about Hatori from the below space. *You need to show your ID with your photo when you check-in. Inform the staff of your expected arrival time in advance. Check Availability and Pricing for the ryokan on Booking.com or Agoda
