What kind of onsen ryokan is Kuriya Yasohachi?
This is a small auberge ryokan in Kaga Onsen. There are 24 rooms only. This is not luxury, but very cozy. If you love hot springs, Kuriya Yasohachi would be one of the best. The spring quality was nice, soft, and moist. Perhaps, if you are a gourmet, the property would be great. Kuriya Yasohachi is one of the auberge ryokans in Kanazawa. The ambiance would be serene, modern, and tranquil. The property would be great for couples, solo travelers, business persons, family, or small groups. The appearance of the building tends to be a bit worn-out, but the inside tends to be modern.
Is the location easy to access?
Yes, it would be easy from Kagaonsen Station. It takes 30min by train from Kanazawa Station to Kagaonsen station. Free shuttle service is available from Kagaonsen Station between 13:30 and 17:00. It takes 20min by car. You need to book it in advance. If you take a taxi, it costs around JPY3,000.
Rooms I would recommend?
If you are going to stay here, I would recommend Japanese-style rooms with private outdoor hot springs. You can chill out at the bath while seeing a beautiful bamboo forest. Then if you don’t want to sleep on Japanese-style mattresses called futon in tatami rooms, you may want to book a western Japanese-style room with twin beds.
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, yukatas, samue outfits, and a green tea set, etc. There are some colorful yukatas that you can choose from. Also, there are MIKIMOTO amenities in the bathroom. The free WiFi reception was good on the property. Room service is not available. Then, this is child-friendly. Staff provides yukatas, meals, and amenities for small children if you request in advance.
How about In-house Facilities?
There are indoor and outdoor communal hot springs. Also, there is an outdoor private family hot spring. You can soak in the private bath while viewing a bamboo forest illuminated at night. You need to book in advance if you want to use it. It costs JPY3,240. You should try it. All of them are open from 5:00-11:30, 14:00-25:00. *Please note that if you have tattoos and want to use the communal hot springs, use the reserved private family one, or book a room with a private outdoor one. Then Kuriya Yasohachi is a universal design. Wheelchairs are available for borrowing. If you bring people with weak feet, you may want to inform the staff in advance as they can arrange a room near the lift. Then there is no convenience store nearby. You may want to buy your necessities before coming here.

How about meals?
Kaga kaiseki food experience was good. The food tends to be authentic. It may be a little challenging for the western palate. The portion tends to be a bit big. Some rice balls for a midnight snack were served in our room after dinner. All meals are served in a private room in a dining area. *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies. They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day. Then, as far as I know, there is no restaurant around here. The location is out of the way. You may want to book a room including meals unless you have a car.
All staff welcomed us with warmth. You can experience signature Japanese hospitality during your stay. Overall, the price range would be reasonable. Then, the best season to stay here would be except for the summer season. There would be many bugs around the outdoor hot springs in summer. It cannot be helped as the property is located in the countryside. If you are metropolitan, you may want to avoid staying during the season. Then don’t forget to hang out around Yuge Road. You can fully enjoy Japanese culture and local food. Have a nice trip!
