What kind of onsen ryokan is Fujiya?
The onsen ryokan wouldn’t be luxury, but the atmosphere is such a laid-back. This is like a hideaway for adults. There are 8 rooms only. We hardly met other guests during our stay. Staff welcomed us with warmth and we didn’t feel like we were checking in a ryokan, it was like we were being welcome back home. If you are looking for charming and quaint onsen ryokans in Kurokawa Onsen, I would recommend it. Fujiya would be great for couples, families, small groups, or solo travelers. *A minimum age requirement of 7 applies.

Is the location easy to access?
Yes, it takes just 5min on foot from Kurokawa Onsen Bus Stop. The location is perfect but it wouldn’t be easy to find the entrance of the property. If this is your first-time visiting Kurokawa Onsen, you should ask the staff to pick up at the bus stop. A free shuttle service is available. You need to book it in advance.
Rooms I would recommend?
If you are going to stay here, I would recommend rooms called “Moku” or “Kin”. If you want to view peaceful landscapes with the river, you might want to stay in a room called “Moku”. The decor is “Japan Minimalist”, but truly relaxing. The housekeeping is excellent. If you don’t want to sleep on Japanese mattresses in tatami rooms, you should stay in rooms called “Tsuki” or “Kin”. Those rooms have twin beds. Unluckily, there is no room with a private hot spring in Fujiya.
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including minimum toiletries, yukatas, and a green tea set, etc. Complimentary coffee and tea were offered in the lobby. There are vending machines for drinks and snacks. Room service is not available. Free WiFi reception was good at the small lounge on 1F and the reading room on 2F only.
How about In-house Facilities?
There are amazing communal indoor and outdoor hot springs. Also, there are 2 private family ones that all guests can use for free whenever they are not occupied. The spring quality is simply wonderful. All of them are open for 24 hours. On top of that, you can use communal hot springs in the sister inn, Kurokawa Onsen Oyado Noshiyu. Don’t forget to visit the sister inn. It takes 10min on foot from Fujiya. *Please note that if you have tattoos and want to use the communal hot springs, use the private family ones instead. Then Fujiya is not a universal design and there are some steep steps. There is no lift. I wouldn’t recommend it if you bring people with weak feet.

How about meals?
Japanese food experience for dinner and breakfast was wonderful. The portion tends to be average. All meals are served in a private room in a dining area. Dinner starts from 18:00 or 18:30. Breakfast starts at 8:15. *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies. They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day. Then, as far as I know, there is no restaurant for dinner around the property. Most of the local papa-mama shops are closing early. You may want to book a room including meals.
Overall, Fujiya has good value for money. The most important I would like to highlight is that all staff is sophisticated, proactive, and considerate. We received a lot of warm Japanese hospitality. We were so completely happy the whole enter time. Then if you drive a car, be careful. There are some narrow mountain roads around the property. On top of that, the parking lot is cramped. You may want to use public transportation when you visit Kurokawa Onsen. Have a nice trip! Welcome to receive any questions about Fujiya from the below space. The payment is cash only. You need to inform the staff of your expected arrival time in advance. Check Availability and Pricing for the onsen ryokan on Booking.com
