Otasatonoyu Ayanosho

Otasatonoyu Ayanosho is not luxury, but very cozy.  If you are looking for mountain hut villa-style ryokans, you should stay here.  Perhaps, if you are looking for rooms with private outdoor hot springs, I would highly recommend it.  Each room has a wonderful private outdoor one.  The spring quality is very creamy, soft, and thick.  You must become a hot spring freak once you try it.  On top of that, the property has great value for money if compared to others.  The ambiance is tranquil, family-oriented, and friendly.  The stately antique furniture, interior, and decorations create a mature impression.  Otasatonoyu Ayanosho would be great for family, couples, small groups, or solo travelers.  There are only 14 rooms.  Facilities tend to bit worn-out but well-maintained.  The room is spacious, relaxed, and Japanese minimalistic.  If you bring people with weak feet or small children, you may want to book a one-story room.  There are some maisonette-style rooms in-house but they wouldn’t be convenient, no functional, and no user-friendly.  Then we spent a lot of time jumping in and out of our private outdoor one until check-out time.  That’s precious time.  Normally you warm yourself up by taking an indoor hot bath and then soak in an outdoor bath, but it seems that there is no indoor bath in each room.  That would be inconvenient if you stay on cold days, especially the winter season, but there are indoor and outdoor communal hot springs in-house, so before using your private one, first, you may want to use the communal ones.  Also, there are saunas.  All of them are open from 6:30 to 22:00.  *If you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the public bathing area.  There is no private family hot spring in-house.  Then all of the amenities are taken care of including minimum toiletries, tea bags, pajamas, yukatas, and a Japanese tea set.  There are POLA amenities in the bathroom, but no skincare products.  There is a vending machine for drinks.  Complimentary coffee, tea, and green tea are available at the lounge from 7:00-22:00.  A DVD player was placed in our room.  Free WiFi reception was available around the lobby only when we stayed in 2018.  We couldn’t connect to the internet in our room.  Then Otasatonoyu Ayanosho is child-friendly.  Staff can provide meals, yukatas, and amenities for small children if you request in advance.  Then this is almost universal design.  Wheelchairs are available for borrowing.  If you bring people with weak feet, you may want to inform the staff in advance as they can arrange a villa near the entrance.  This property is very large.  There are few steps on-site.  Then the local food experience was good, but wouldn’t be special.  The portion tends to be big.  There are many dishes for dinner.  Don’t forget to bring your empty stomach.  All meals are served in a private room.  *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day.  Then, as far as I know, there wouldn’t be restaurants around the property.  Local papa-mama shops are closing early.  You may want to book a room including meals.  Then all staff is so friendly, warm and helpful.  They tend to be not sophisticated, though.  If you want to experience signature Japanese hospitality with a personal touch, you should stay here.  Sincere and wonderful hospitality greeted us the moment we started parking our car.  Overall, for this price, the performance of the service, amenities, and food was way above much expectation.  The HP website looks OK, but in reality, the property would be much better.  If you want to get relax in beautiful nature while soaking in hot springs, I would highly recommend Otasatonoyu Ayanosho.  At last, there are many narrow mountain roads.  There is no traffic light.  There are few street lights around here.  I would highly recommend using public transportation instead of a personal car.  Unluckily we struggled with finding the property.  Free shuttle service is available from Kurokawa Onsen Bus stop or Tsuedate Onsen Bus Stop.  You need to book it in advance.  Have a nice trip!  Welcome to receive any questions about the property from the below space.  *All information is as of the date that I posted on my blog.  **They can accept CASH only.  ***Check-in and out times 15:00/11:00  If you check-in after 18:00, you need to inform staff in advance.  Check Availability and Pricing for the ryokan on Booking.com or Agoda
