Oyado Hanabou

If you are looking for mountain hut style ryokans near Kurokawa Onsen, I really think you should stay at Oyado Hanabou.  The property is surprisingly surrounded by rich nature.  There wouldn’t be restaurants, no shops, and no traffic lights, etc., around there.  Perhaps, if you are looking for rooms with private hot springs, I would highly recommend it.  Each room has a private hot spring.  Some rooms have both private indoor and outdoor hot springs.  Actually this property wouldn’t be luxury, but very cozy.  The ambiance is friendly, relaxed, and tranquil.  There are 10 rooms only.  Absolutely Oyado Hanabou completely emphasizes private experiences for each guest.  We almost never met other guests in-house even though it was fully booked.  The property would be great for family, couples, small groups, or solo travelers.  If you are going to stay here, I would highly recommend booking a twin bedroom along the river with a private outdoor hot spring.  You can enjoy white noise from the river and the forest while chilling out in the room.  Also, the room is connected to the communal hot springs.  It would be very convenient when you move around.  There are some steps when you go to the main building, though.  Then facilities tend to be a bit outdated.  The housekeeping was not so good around some places.  Free Wifi reception was excellent in our room, but I had a bad signal when I talked on the phone.  Then all of the amenities are taken care of including minimum toiletries, yukatas, a coffee machine, and a green tea set, etc.  Room service is not available.  Also, DVD players are available for borrowing if you request.  There is no convenience store.  You may want to buy your necessities before coming here.  Then there are indoor and outdoor communal hot springs in-house.  *If you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the public bathing area.  Also, you have free access to four private family hot springs that you can use whenever they are not occupied.  The spring quality is amazing, very smooth, soft, and moist.  All of them are open from 15:00-22:00, 6:00-8:30.  Then Oyado Hanabou is not a universal design.  It seems that wheelchairs are not available for borrowing, but once you enter your room, you wouldn’t need to move around as there is a private hot spring.  If you bring people with weak feet, you may want to inform the staff in advance they can arrange a room near the entrance.  The property is very large.  Then local food experience for dinner and breakfast was great, especially beef shabu-shabu.  The portion tends to be big.  Don’t forget to bring your empty stomach.  All meals are served in a private room.  Dinner starts from 18:00 or 18:30.  If you have dinner on the property, you need to check-in by 18:00.  Breakfast starts from 8:00 or 8:30.  *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies or dietary needs.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day.  Then, as far as I know, there wouldn’t be restaurants near the property.  The location is deep in the mountains.  You may want to book a room with meals.  Then the staff tends to be friendly, but not so attentive.  If you expect signature Japanese hospitality, this wouldn’t be.  Overall, Oyado Hanabou has great value for money.  If relaxation is your main purpose, this would be perfect.  Then access to the property would be a little tricky.  You need to take a taxi from Kurokawa Onsen Bus Stop.  It takes 10min from the bus stop.  It costs around JPY1,500.  There is no free shuttle service.  You may want to check in earlier.  It wouldn’t be easy to get a taxi at night around Kurokawa Onsen.  Alternatively, if you drive a car, be careful.  There are many narrow mountain roads on the way to the property and very dark at night.  Don’t forget to check a map carefully in advance.  Also as you may expect, there would be many bugs around the property during the summer season.  Then the best season to stay here would be in the spring or fall.  You can take a walk on-site while viewing a beautiful nature.  Have a nice trip!  Welcome to receive any questions about the property from the below space.  *All information is as of the date that I posted on my blog.  Check-in and out times 15:00/10:00  Check Availability and Pricing for the ryokan on Booking.com or Agoda
