Shikinosato Hanamura

If you are looking for rooms with private hot springs in rich nature, I would highly recommend Shikinosato Hanamura.  Perhaps, if relaxation is your main purpose, I really think you should stay here.  A one-night stay wouldn’t be enough.  On the other hand, if you want to enjoy hanging out around Kurokawa onsen town in Yukata whenever you like, I wouldn’t recommend it.  The location is 5min drive away from the center of Kurokawa Onsen.  The surrounding neighborhood is so quiet even though there are many tourists in the onsen town.  The ambiance is tranquil, charming, and quaint.  Shikinosato Hanamura would be great for family, couples, small groups, or solo travelers.  Each room is a traditional mountain villa-style.  There are only 16 rooms.  All rooms have private indoor hot springs.  Some rooms have both private indoor and outdoor hot springs.  If you are going to stay here, I would highly recommend booking the latter.  You can fully relax in your private baths while hearing white noise from the forest.  That’s precious time.  If you don’t want to sleep on Japanese-style mattresses called Futon, you may want to book a room with twin beds.  The room is japan minimalistic, functional, and cozy.  Facilities tend to be bit worn-out, but the housekeeping was excellent.  The free WiFi reception was excellent in the property when we stayed in 2019.  Also, you can use a streaming service to watch many kinds of TV dramas and movies at an additional charge, 540JPY.  All of the amenities are taken care of including minimum toiletries, tea bags, samue outfits, yukatas, bathrobes, and a Japanese tea set.  Also, this is child-friendly.  Staff can provide yukatas, meals, and Japanese sandals called zori for small kids if you request.  Room service is not available.  There is a vending machine for drinks in-house.  There is no convenience store nearby.  You may want to buy your necessities before coming here.  Then there are unique communal hot springs in-house.  The spring quality is smooth, moist, and soft.  The water temperature tends to be lukewarm.  Also, you can use communal hot springs in the sister inn “Ayanosho”.  You should try all of them if you are a hot spring freak.  *If you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the public bathing area.  Then Shikinosato Hanamura is not a universal design, but there are few steps in-house.  Wheelchairs are available for borrowing.  If you bring people with weak feet, you may want to inform the staff in advance as they can arrange a room near the entrance.  Actually, once you enter your room, you wouldn’t need to move around.  Then there is a very cozy library lounge.  Complimentary coffee, tea, and water, etc., are available.  Absolutely you can chill out at the lounge while viewing a peaceful garden.  Then the local food experience was wonderful.  If you are a gourmet, you must be happy.  The portion tends to be big.  Don’t forget to bring your empty stomach.  All meals are served in a nice private room.  Dinner starts from 18:00, 18:30, or 19:00.  You need to check-in by 18:00 if you have dinner on the property.  Breakfast starts from 8:00 or 8:30.  *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day.  Then, as far as I know, there wouldn’t be restaurants around the property.  Local papa-mama shops are closing early.  You may want to book a room including meals.  Then all staff is friendly, attentive, and helpful.  You can experience signature Japanese hospitality during your stay.  Overall, Shikinosato Hanamura has great value for money.  There are many return guests including us.  If you want to get much of an immersive “traditional mountain hut resort” experience, you should stay here.  Anyway, the best season to stay here would be except for the summer season.  There would be many bugs around outdoor hot springs in summer as the location is deep in the mountains.  At last, access to the property would be easy as free shuttle service is available from Kurokawa Onsen Bus Stop.  You need to book it in advance.  Have a nice trip!  Welcome to receive any questions about the property from the below space.  *All information is as of the date that I posted on my blog.  Check-in and out times 15:30/10:30  You need to inform staff of your expected arrival time in advance.   Check Availability and Pricing for the property on Booking.com or Agoda
