Yamabiko Ryokan

Yamabiko Ryokan

What kind of onsen ryokan is Yamabiko Ryokan?

Yamabiko Ryokan
If you bring small children, I would recommend it.  This is child-friendly.  Staff can offer a lot of items which you might need to travel with them.  Also, the children’s playroom is available.  I noticed that there were many families with small children staying here.  On the other hand, if you are looking for ryokans like a hideaway for adults, this is not.  The ambiance is cozy, lively, and family-oriented.

Is the location easy to access?

Free shuttle service is available from Kurokawa Onsen Bus Stop or Tatetsue Bus Stop.  You need to book it in advance.

Rooms I would recommend?

If you are going to stay here, I would recommend staying in rooms with river views.  You can chill out at the rooms while enjoying white noise from the river.  If you bring small children, you may want to stay in rooms with mountain views as small sinks and microwave ovens would be installed.  They would be very useful when you prepare baby food.  Then if you don’t want to sleep on Japanese mattresses in tatami rooms, you should stay in Japanese western rooms with twin beds.  Also if you are a couple, you should stay in a special room with an indoor private hot spring.

How about toiletries & in-room amenities?

All of the amenities are taken care of including minimum toiletries, yukatas, and a green tea set, etc.  Complimentary coffee, tea, and water, etc. are available at the lounge.  There is a vending machine for drinks.  Room service is not available.  Free WiFi reception was available at the lobby and the lounge on 1F only.  Then there is no convenience store nearby.  You might want to buy your necessities before coming here.

How about In-house Facilities?

There are six private family hot springs for free which all guests can use whenever they are not occupied.  Also, there are wonderful large communal outdoor and indoor ones.  If you are a hot spring freak, you must be excited.  Also, there is a shallow hot spring for small children too.   The spring quality is amazing, very thick, creamy, and moist.  All of them are open for 24 hours.  *Please note that if you have tattoos and want to use the communal hot springs, use the private family baths, or book a room with a private one.  Then the property is pet-friendly.  There is a small hot spring for dogs on-site too.  You need to inform staff in advance if you bring your dogs.   Then Yamabiko Ryokan is almost universal design and there are lifts.  Wheelchairs are available for borrowing.  If you bring people with weak feet, you might want to inform the staff in advance as they can arrange a room near the lift.

How about meals?

Kaiseki food experience for dinner and breakfast was good but wouldn’t be special.  The portion tends to be big.  Don’t forget to bring your empty stomach.  All meals were served in a private room in a dining area.  Dinner starts from 18:00, 18:30 or 19:00.  Breakfast starts from 8:00 to 9:00.  *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day.  Then, as far as I know, there is no restaurant for dinner around the property.  Also, local papa-mama shops are closing early.  You may want to book a room including meals.

My impressions

All staff tends to be very helpful, attentive, and warm.  What impressed me the most is their care for small children and infants.  You can experience a signature Japanese hospitality.  Then if you cannot find an English speaker at the front desk, you might want to write on paper what you want to say.  Most of the staff would understand English sentences.  I hope you don’t mind.  Overall, the onsen ryokan wouldn’t be luxurious, but the onsen ryokan has good value for money.  The location is a little away from the center of Kurokawa onsen.  It takes 10min on foot.  Have a nice trip!  Welcome to receive any questions about Yamabiko Ryokan from the below space.  If you check-in after 18:00, you need to inform the staff in advance.  Check Availability and Pricing for the ryokan on Booking.com or Agoda
