What kind of ryokan is Mizuno Ryokan?
If you are looking for an authentic ryokan adventure in Saga prefecture, you should stay at Mizuno Ryokan. The environment around the property is so lovely. If you take a walk on the beach while viewing Karatsu castle, you may feel like a SAMURAI! There are 11 rooms only. We never met other guests even though the property was fully booked. Mizuno Ryokan completely emphasizes private experiences for each guest. Also, ocean views from the property are surprisingly amazing. On the other hand, if you are looking for modern ryokans, this is not. Perhaps, if this is your first time staying at ryokans, I wouldn’t recommend it. Because facilities tend to be outdated. The historical building is aged, clean, and well-maintained. The ambiance is serene, charming, and quaint. The property would be great for couples, families, solo travelers, or small groups. *A minimum age requirement of 13 applies
Is the location easy to access?
The property is located near Karatsu Station. It takes 5min by TAXI. It costs around 700JPY. It takes 15min on foot. A free shuttle service is not available. It takes 90min by train from Hakata station to Karatsu Station.
Rooms I would recommend?
If you are going to stay here, I would recommend a room with a Japanese cypress wood bathtub called “Hime no Ma” on 2F. It’s truly worth staying here. You can chill out at the room and soak in the wooden bath while seeing a magnificent ocean view. That’s precious time. The décor is Japan minimalistic, but truly relaxing. The housekeeping was good. Then there is no room with western beds. If you don’t want to sleep on Japanese-style mattresses in tatami rooms, you might want to find others. How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including minimum toiletries, yukatas, and a Japanese tea set, etc. There is a convenience store nearby. Room service is not available. Humidifiers, DVD players, CD players, and bicycles were available for borrowing. The free WiFi reception was good in the property. There is no safety deposit box in each room. You need to leave your valuables at the front desk.
How about In-house Facilities?
Mizuno Ryokan is not a universal design. There is no lift. If you bring people with weak feet, you may want to request a room on 1F. Also if you have a lot of luggage, you may want to request a room on 1F as it would be hard to go up and down stairs. Then there are small communal baths. They are not hot springs, though. They are open from 16:00 to 23:00. *If you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the public bathing area. Also, the ryokan has a small traditional courtyard. Don’t forget to take a look around there.
How about meals?
Seafood Kaiseki would be top-notch. Each dish was carefully prepared. If you are a gourmet, you should try it. It may be challenging for western palates. All meals are serviced in each room. Dinner starts from 17:00 to 19:00. You need to check-in by 18:00 if you have dinner on the property. Breakfast starts at 7:30. *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies or dietary needs. They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day. Alternatively, you can go out for dinner as there are some local restaurants around Karatsu Station. If this is your first visit, you may want to ask the staff about recommended restaurants.
All staff was beyond wonderful in my estimation. The landlady welcomed us with warmth. If you want to experience family hospitality when you are in Japan, you should stay here. There are many return guests. At last, don’t forget to check a weather forecast before booking a room if you want to see a beautiful ocean. Have a nice trip!
