What kind of onsen ryokan is Rakuyu?

This is my cup of tea.  If you are looking for small modern ryokans near Mt.Fuji, I would recommend it.  Perhaps if you are looking for reasonable cozy ryokans around the Mt.Fuji area, you should stay here.  The property has great value for money.  The location is in front of Lake Kawaguchi.  You can admire peaceful mountains and the lake during your stay.  *There is no Mt.Fuji view from the property.  You can see Mt.Fuji in good weather if you walk outside for 10 minutes from Rakuyu.  The ambiance would be relaxed, tranquil, and serene.  Rakuyu would be great for couples, solo travelers, family, or small groups.  Most of the rooms have a minimum age requirement of 7 applies.  Only the western Japanese-style rooms have a minimum age requirement of 13 applies.

Is the location easy to access?

Yes, it would be easy.  Free shuttle service is available from Kawaguchiko Station between 15:00 and 19:00.  You need to book it in advance.  It takes 10min on foot from the station, but don’t walk to the property as there is a very long slope.  It would be very hard to go up the slope.

Rooms I would recommend?

If you are going to stay here, you may want to request rooms on 3F or 4F.  You can see much more beautiful views if compared to rooms on 2F.  The rooms tend to be modern Japanese-style, Japanese minimalist, and functional.  If you don’t want to sleep on a Japanese-style mattress in a tatami room, you may want to book rooms with twin beds on tatami mats.

How about toiletries & in-room amenities?

All of the amenities are taken care of including minimum toiletries, yukatas, bottled water, and a green tea set, etc.  There are POLA skincare products for women and men in the bathroom.  There are colorful yukatas in the lobby you can choose from.  Room service is not available.  Complimentary coffee, tea, and cookies are available in the lobby.  There is a vending machine for drinks including beer.  There is no convenience store within walking distance.  You may want to buy your necessities before coming here.  The free WiFi reception was good in the property.

How about In-house Facilities?

Rakuyu is not a universal design.  There is no lift.  There are some steps.  Wheelchairs are not available for borrowing.  If you bring people with weak feet, I wouldn’t recommend staying at Rakuyu.  Also, if you have a lot of baggage, you may want to stay in a room on 2F.  Then there are indoor and outdoor communal hot springs.  The spring quality wouldn’t be special, but you can soak in the bath while seeing a nice lake view.  All of them are open for 24H.  Also, there is a wonderful private family hot spring in-house.  You need to book it in advance if you want to use it.  It costs JPY2,100 for 45min.  It’s open from 6:00-9:00, 15:00-23:00.  *Please note that if you have tattoos and want to use the communal hot springs, use the private family one instead.

How about meals?

The Japanese kaiseki food experience was wonderful.  All local ingredients were so fresh, tasty, and dainty.  They have a nice wine list to complement the meal.  The portion tends to be average.  All meals are served in a private room.  Dinner starts from 18:00, 18:30, 19:30, or 20:00.  You need to check-in by 19:00 if you have dinner on the property.  Breakfast time is between 7:30 and 9:00.  *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day.  Then, as far as I know, there is no restaurant around there.  You may want to book a room including meals.

My impressions

All staff tends to be friendly, helpful, and kind, but not sophisticated.  I guess it’s OK.  This is Yamanashi prefecture.  Then the property would be very popular and there are many return guests all year round.  If you want to chill out here in a tranquil atmosphere, you may want to avoid staying during Lunar New Year, late April to early May, weekend in Oct and Nov, and the end of the year and New Year holiday.  Have a nice trip!  Welcome to receive any questions about Rakuyu from the below space.   Check Availability and Pricing for Rakuyu on Booking.com or Agoda
