If you want to experience an authentic ryokan adventure in Nagano, you must stay here. We had many nostalgic feelings during our stay. It’s truly worth staying here. Perhaps, if you are keen on Japanese architecture, you must visit here. You won’t get bored during your stay. The ryokan is one of the important cultural properties with a long history. That’s why, it’s aged, well-maintained, clean, and elegant. We were so excited to explore the stunning building. This is indescribably wonderful. In particular, Momoyama hot springs in the main building which is one of the highlights are truly amazing. We were impressed with the dynamic historical baths. If you are going to stay here, I would highly recommend booking a room with a private hot spring in the Shoraiso building. That’s really charming and quaint. Others wouldn’t be special. Also, the ryokan has two kitchens in-house. One is in the Shoraiso building, and the other is in the main building. The food prepared in the Shoraiso building tends to be much more sophisticated than one in the main building. If you stay at a room in the Shoraiso building, you have dinner in the Shoraiso building. If you stay at a room in the main building, you have for dinner in the main building. But the breakfast venue for all guests in Shoraiso and the main building was the same dining room in my experience. Then spring quality is perfect, like skin lotion. We enjoyed a lot of time jumping in and out of our private and public large onsens. Then if you bring elderly people with weak feet, you might want to request rooms called “Komakusa” or “Syakunage” on 1F in the Shoraiso building. Because there are some steep steps and no elevators in the building. Then if you are a light sleeper, you might want to request a room on 3F. It seems that the traditional building has no soundproofing facilities. Our ears sometimes caught people talking in the hallway and the footsteps of the upstairs room. Only my issue is that there is no special view from the property. Also, Yorozuya would be very popular. We waited for a while at the lobby when we checked in and out. It seems that there is a shortage of staff. If you want to chill out here, you might want to visit on weekdays, not weekends or not Japan’s public holidays. At last, the best season to stay here would be except the summer season. The water temperature of hot springs tends to be high. You won’t be able to soak in the baths, or you may feel reluctant to get in them in the summer season. If your main purpose is to visit Monkey Snow Park, you must stay here in the winter season by all means! Have a nice trip!
