Naruto Park Hills Hotel Ridge

Naruto Park Hills Hotel Ridge

What kind of onsen resort is Naruto Park Hills Hotel Ridge?

If you are looking for small luxury resorts in Shikoku, I would recommend it.  Perhaps, if you are a gourmet, you should stay here.  This is one of the amazing auberge resorts in Japan.  On the other hand, if you are looking for modern rooms with private onsen, this is not.  There is no room with a private one.  The ambiance is tranquil, cozy, and serene.  The resort would be great for couples, solo travelers, or small groups, but not for families with small kids.  *A minimum age requirement of 13 applies.  If you are going to stay here, you might want to check in earlier and just relax in your room with champagne in hand while viewing the beautiful Naruto Bridge and Awaji Island.

Is the location easy to access?

The location is perfect but access to the property wouldn’t be convenient.  If you visit Awaji Island and Shikoku Region, you may want to get a car for rent.  There is little public transportation around here.  Free shuttle service is available from Tokuyama Airport or Naruto City.  You need to book it in advance.

How about toiletries & in-room amenities?

All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, pajamas, bathrobes, a complimentarily mini bar including beer and half bottle champagne, etc.   You can travel light.  Also, a DVD player, a CD player, and a humidifier were placed in our room.  Wi-Fi reception was good on the property.  Then there is no convenience store nearby.  You may want to buy your necessities before coming here.  Room service is not available.

How about In-house Facilities?

Facilities tend to be the latest.  The indoor and outdoor communal hot springs tend to be small and there is no view.  They are open from 7:00-11:00, 14:00-23:00.  *If you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the public bathing area.  Then the resort is almost universal design.  A wheelchair is available for borrowing.  If you bring people with weak feet, you may want to inform the staff in advance as they can arrange a room near the reception.  When we moved to the traditional building for dinner and breakfast, the staff sent us by limousine.  It takes just 1min, though.  When we entered the historical building, we felt the luxury and authenticity at once.  We were seated in a beautifully appointed dining area overlooking Naruto Bridge.  What a magical place!

How about meals?

The Kyoto-style kaiseki food for dinner and breakfast was just divine.  No doubt this is top-notch.  All dishes were amazingly fresh, beautifully presented, and excellent.  The portion tends to be average.  All meals are served in a dining area.  There is no private room in the dining area but there is enough space next to the table.   Then some rice balls were served for a night snack after dinner.   *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request it on that day.  Then, as far as I know, there wouldn’t be nice restaurants around the property.  The location is out of the way.  You may want to book a room including meals.  Alternatively, the hotel has a western restaurant called “California Table” too, so you can enjoy western food for lunch and dinner while seeing amazing views.  They have a nice wine list to complement the meal.  You might want to book a table on the balcony in advance if the weather is good.  The restaurant is often fully booked for private parties.

My impressions

All staff tends to be helpful, attentive, and professional.  If you expect 5-star hotel service, you should stay here.  At last, don’t forget to check the weather forecast.  That’s the most important.  There is no better option than just seeing peaceful views in good weather and enjoy being completely lazy while drinking wine.  Welcome to receive any questions about the property from the below space.  *If you check-in after 18:00, you need to inform staff in advance.  **Free shuttle service is available from “California Table” to Otsuka museum of art.  You should visit the museum during your stay.   Check Availability and Pricing for the hotel on Agoda
