This is absolutory one of the beautiful ryokans in Japan. Once you stay at Fujiisou, you would want to become one of the return guests. The ryokan is authentic, top notch and elegant. We always feel the luxury and authenticity at once. The traditional building is a special heritage value. This is a spectacular place to stay with every attention to every detail. The architect who designed this thought of every element to bring a beautiful harmony to each room. Once you enter the property, you would be overwhelmed by the beauty of views from the lobby. Beauties show up in each season in this traditional building. The property would be great for couples, families, solo travelers, or small groups. If you bring small children, you can book Japanese-style rooms only. You wouldn’t be able to book Japanese-style rooms in the annex and western twin rooms. Then there are 24 rooms only. The property completely emphasizes private experiences for each guest. If you are going to stay here, I would highly recommend booking a standard twin room with a balcony because it was renovated in 2015. The facilities tend to be the latest. Others would be a bit worn out. The housekeeping was excellent, though. Wifi reception tends to be patchy in guest rooms, but you can connect to the internet around the lobby. All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, yukatas, water bottle, and green tea bags, etc. Room service is not available. There is no convenience store nearby. You may want to buy your necessities before coming here. Then complimentary Japanese sake, coffee, herb tea, and apple juice are available at the lobby. You can see breathtaking views in the lobby while having coffee. That’s precious time. Then the property is not universal design and there are some steps, but there is only one room for wheelchair users called the Western-Japanese style room. There is a lift. Wheelchairs are available. If you bring people with weak feet, you should inform staff in advance. Then there are wonderful indoor and outdoor communal hot springs in-house. The spring quality wouldn’t be special, though. They are open from 5:00-10:30, 15:00-25:00. *If you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the public bathing area. **There is no private family hot spring and no room with private hot springs in-house. Then kaiseki food experience for dinner and breakfast is just divine. If you are a gourmet, you should try it. It may be little challenging for western palate but it’s well worth it. The portion tends to be average. All meals are served in a private room. Also you can order meals for children. Dinner starts from 17:45-19:00. You need to check in by 19:00 if you have dinner here. Breakfast starts from 8:00-9:00. *Please note that inform staff when you book a room with dinner if you have any food allergies. They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day. Then as far as I know, there wouldn’t be nice restaurants near the property. Most of local papa-mama shops are closing early. You may want to book a room with meals. Then all staff tends to be warm, friendly and professional. You can experience signature Japanese hospitality with personal touch. Also there would be a complimentary tour organized by staff. You may want to ask them about that when you check in. It would depend on the season and weather. Overall the price range would be reasonable. If you want to get much of an immersive “authentic ryokan” experience as you expect, I really think you should stay here. An access to the property wouldn’t be hard. Free shuttle service is available from Obuse Station at 14:50. Alternatively free shuttle service is available from Nagano Station between December and March. You need to book it in advance. At last, the ryokan has a lot of return guests. If you want to chill out in a tranquil atmosphere, you should avoid staying during Lunar New Year, late April to early May, weekend in Nov, and the end of year and New Year holiday. Have a nice trip! Welcome to receive any questions about the property from the below space. *All information is as of the date that I posted on my blog. **Check-in and out times 15:00/12:00 If you check-in after 19:00, you need to inform staff in advance.
