Sui Suwako

If you are looking for luxury modern ryokans near Lake Suwa in Nagano, I really think you should stay here.  The property is one of the best modern ryokans in Japan.  On top of that, access to the property would be easy from Shinjuku Station.  It takes 120min by express train.  Perhaps, if you are looking for modern tatami rooms with private hot springs, I would highly recommend it.  Each room has a private hot spring with a view of Lake Suwa.  This is like a hideaway for adults.  There are 8 rooms only.  The property completely emphasizes private experiences for each guest.  We hardly met other guests during our stay.  The ambiance is serene, tranquil, and stylish.  This property would be great for families, couples, small groups, or solo travelers.  Also, this is child-friendly.  If you bring small children, you can book wide-style rooms only.  Staff can provide meals, yukatas, and samue outfits for small children.  Then if you are going to stay here, I would highly recommend booking a room on a high floor.  You can see a beautiful Lake Suwa while chilling out in the room.  The decor is “Japan-minimalistic, but truly relaxing.  Facilities tend to be the latest as the property opened in 2016.  The housekeeping was excellent.  All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, yukatas, samue outfits, bathrobes, pajamas, snacks, a coffee machine with capsules, tea bags, bottled water, and a green tea set, etc.  There are skin care products and bath amenities in the bathroom.  Also, a Blu-ray player, a CD player, and an air cleaner, etc., were placed in our room.  The wifi reception was great.  Room service is not available.  There wouldn’t be a convenience store nearby.  You may want to buy your necessities before coming here.  Then there is a communal hot spring with panoramic views on the top floor.  *This hot spring is for both men and women, so you need to wear bathing clothes such as yukata provided.  I really recommend soaking in the bath in the evening.  We were overwhelmed by the beauty of the sunset.  You should check the sunset time in advance.  It’s open from 6:00-23:00.  Complimentary tea, water, and ginger ale were available near the communal bath.  *If the weather is bad, such as typhoons, strong winds, or heavy rain, the communal bath would be closed.  Then the property is almost universal design.  There is a lift.  Wheelchairs are available for borrowing.  Once you enter your room, you wouldn’t need to move around as there is a private hot spring.  Actually, there are some steps if you go to the communal bath on 6F as there is no lift between 5F and 6F only.  Then if you have time, you should join free tours organized by staff, such as visiting four shrines and the Miso factory tour.  *Miso is fermented soybean paste.  If you are keen on Japanese culture, you must be excited.  You need to inform staff in advance if you want to join the tours.  Then kaiseki food experience was just divine.  The food tends to be sophisticated.  If you are a foodie, you must be happy.  Dinner starts from 17:30, 18:00, or 19:00.  You would need to check in by 17:00 if you have dinner on the property.  The portion tends to be average.  Then after dinner, some rice balls for a night snack were served in our room.  Also, don’t forget to visit the bar.  There are many kinds of Japanese sakes.  Then breakfast starts at 7:30, 8:00, or 8:30.  All meals are served in a private room.  *Please note that inform staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day.  Then, as far as I know, there wouldn’t be nice restaurants near the property.  Most local papa-mama shops are closing early.  You may want to book a room with meals.  Then all staff tends to be very warm, super-attentive, and helpful.  I’m sure you can experience signature Japanese hospitality during your stay.  Overall the price range would be reasonable if you love Japanese food, hot springs, and culture.  At last, a free shuttle service is available from Kami-Suwa Station.  You need to book it in advance.  Alternatively, it takes 10min on foot from the station.  Have a nice trip!  Welcome to receive any questions about the property from the below space.  *All information is as of the date that I posted on my blog.  Check-in and out times 15:00/11:00.  Check Availability and Pricing for the hotel on Agoda
