Myojinkan Ryokan

If you are looking for luxury modern rooms with private hot springs in Nagano, I would highly recommend staying at Myojinkan.  All of the rooms have private hot springs.  This is a boutique hotel.  Also, this is one of the well-known auberge ryokans.  On the other hand, if you are looking for authentic ryokans, this is not.  The ambiance is serene, comfortable, and tranquil.  The property would be great for couples, families, or small groups.  *Only western-style rooms have a minimum age requirement of 13 applies.  If you are going to stay here, I would highly recommend booking a room with private indoor and outdoor hot springs.  We spent a lot of time jumping in and out of our private one while seeing a peaceful mountain view.  Overall facilities tend to be a bit outdated, but well-maintained, clean, and functional.  Then all of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, samue outfits, yukatas, bathrobes, and tea bags, etc.  Room service is not available.  Complimentary coffee, English tea, jasmine tea, iced tea, and apple juice, etc. are available at the salon.  Then we couldn’t connect to the internet in our room when we stayed in 2018.  There is a small library and I noticed that a PC was placed for use by someone.  Also, we had no TV reception.  The location is deep in the mountains.  It cannot be helped.  There is a vending machine for drinks on-site.  Then there is no convenience store nearby.  You may want to buy your necessities before coming here.  Then there are public nice open decks in-house.  We fully chilled out while enjoying the white noise from the river.  This is absolutely an amazing place to refresh in Nagano.  Then there are some wonderful communal hot springs with mist saunas.  There is no private family one on-site, though.  They are open for 24H.  *If you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the communal bathing area.  Then Myojinkan is not a universal design.  There is a lift in the building.  A wheelchair is available for borrowing.  If you bring people with weak feet, you may want to inform staff in advance as they can arrange a room near the lift.  Then French food experience for dinner and breakfast was just divine.  The food looked absolutely beautiful, and also it was dainty.  If you are a gourmet, you must be excited.  They have a nice Japanese sake list to complement the meals.  All meals are served in a dining area.  You can choose either French or modern kaiseki Japanese cuisine for breakfast and dinner.  When you book a room with meals, you need to inform which one you prefer.  After dinner, some rice balls were served in our room for a night snack.  *Please note that inform staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day.  Also, you need to check in by 19:00 if you have dinner at the property.  Then, as far as I know, there is no restaurant around the property.  The location is out of the way.  You may want to book a room including meals.   Then staff tends to be not sophisticated.  If you expect 5-star hotel service, this is not.  Overall the property has good cost performance.  The best season to stay here would be in spring or fall.  You can enjoy trekking around there while viewing beautiful landscapes.  Then there are many return guests staying all year round.  If you want to chill out at the property in a tranquil atmosphere, you may want to avoid staying during Lunar New Year, late April to early May, weekends in Oct and Nov, and the end of the year and New Year holiday.  The property would be crowded during the above periods more than you expect.  At last, access to the property would be easy.  Free shuttle service is available from Matsumoto Station at 15:15 or 16:30.  It takes around 40min.  You need to book it in advance.  I wouldn’t recommend driving a car yourself unless you are a local.  There are many narrow and one-way mountain roads on the way to the property.  Don’t miss the shuttle bus.  Also, a free shuttle service is available from Shinshu Matsumoto Airport.  You need to book it at least 3 days in advance of the date of check-in.  Have a nice trip!  Welcome to receive any questions about the property from the below space.  *All information is as of the date that I posted on my blog.  *Check-in and out times 15:00/12:00  Check Availability and Pricing for Myojinkan on Agoda
