What kind of ryokan is Monjusou Shourotei?
This is top-notch. Once we entered the property, we felt the authenticity and luxury at once. The property has a special heritage value. Monjusou Shourotei would be great for couples, solo travelers, family, or small groups. A minimum age requirement of 12 applies. The ambiance is serene, traditional, and elegant. I love the stillness of this place. The property felt solemn and mysterious. The experience is pure Japan and should definitely be tried. If you love Japanese culture, you must be so impressed by the property. If you are a connoisseur of Japan, I would recommend it. On the other hand, if this is your first time staying at ryokans, I wouldn’t recommend it. Facilities tend to be a bit outdated. The housekeeping was amazingly excellent, though. Also, there is no room with western beds in tatami rooms. You need to sleep on Japanese-style mattresses on tatami mats.

Is the location of the ryokan good?
Yes, the location is awesome with an amazing view and an incredible traditional garden surrounds you everywhere. Free shuttle service is available from Amanohashidate Station between 8:00 and 18:00. You need to book it in advance. Then, there are local papa-mama shops only around there. Most of the shops are open during the daytime only. There is a convenience store nearby, though.
How about rooms?
All rooms have views of Amanohashidate. We were overwhelmed by the beauty of the evening while chilling out at our room. The décor is “Japan minimalistic, but truly relaxing. There is no western element here at all. We could directory go outside from our room and took a walk in the beautiful traditional garden while viewing Amanohashidate. That’s precious time. This is a spectacular place to stay with attention thought of every detail. The architect who designed the property thought of every element to bring a beautiful harmony to each room. Words cannot describe this property. There is no room with private hot springs on-site. There are 11 rooms only. C
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, yukatas, pajamas, coffee bags, sweets, and green tea bags, etc. A Free Wi-Fi reception was available. Room service is not available.
How about In-house Facilities?
There are small indoor and outdoor communal hot springs. All of them are available from 11:00-10:00 the following morning. If you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the communal bathing area. There is no private family hot spring. Then this is not a universal design. If you bring people with weak feet, I wouldn’t recommend staying at the property. There are some steps. I would rather recommend staying at the sister inn, Monjusou. There is a room for wheelchair users and there are some western-style modern rooms with private hot springs. Then you can rent bicycles at JPY400. You should go cycling around there in good weather.
How about meals?
Kyoto-style kaiseki cuisine is also top-notch. It may be challenging for the western palate, but if you are a gourmet, you must be happy. All meals are served in your room. Staff can arrange tables and chairs in your room if you request in advance. Dinner starts from 18:00, 18:30, or 19:00. Breakfast starts at 7:30, 8:00, or 8:30. After dinner, the staff can send you to the bar in the sister inn if you request. *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies. They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day. Then, as far as I know, there is no nice restaurant around the property. You may want to book a room with meals.
How about the staff?
All staff is professional, welcoming, and sophisticated. If you expect 5-star hotel service, you should stay here. Absolutely, you can experience signature Japanese hospitality during your stay.
