What kind of onsen resort is Oyado The Earth Hotel?
This is a luxury onsen resort in the Ise-Shima National Park. The resort is located on a mountain edge with amazing views of the sea. Each room has a wonderful private onsen with a nice ocean view. If you want to enjoy soaking in the private onsen while seeing an amazing view, it would be the best in Mie prefecture. Perhaps, if you want to spend luxury holidays while seeing a peaceful ocean view, you should stay here. This is like a hideaway for adults. *A minimum age requirement of 12 applies. There are 16 rooms only. Except for the dining area, we hardly saw anyone. Also, the resort is a spa hotel. If your main purpose is to have a spa service, it would be one of the best in Mie. The resort would be great for couples, solo travelers, or small groups.

Is the location easy to access?
Yes, it would be easy. Take an express Kintetsu Nagoya Line at Kintetsu Nagoya Station. Then get off at Toba Station. It takes around 100min. Then free shuttle service is available at 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, or 17:00 from Toba Station. Take exit 1 and this is where you will board the shuttle bus. It takes 30min by car. You need to book it in advance.

Then I wouldn’t recommend driving a car yourself when you visit here. Because there are some one-way narrow mountain roads. It would be hard to drive a car unless you are a local.
If you take a taxi from Toba Station, it costs around JPY5,000.
Then when you visit Ise Grand Shrine, a shuttle service called Ise-Futami-Toba bus is available.
Where is the best accommodation for anniversaries?
If you are looking for a good place for a special occasion in Mie, the property would be one of the best. The staff arranges flowers and cakes to celebrate an anniversary at additional charges if you request in advance.

Rooms I would recommend?
If you are going to stay here, I would recommend a Forest Suite, Premium Suite, Ocean Suite, or Maisonette Suite. You can fully enjoy the dynamic scenery of the sea as it changes with the weather and the seasons. Especially the starry sky and the full moon are really wonderful. The moonlight of the full moon reflects off the surface of the sea, creating a mystical atmosphere. Also, if you are lucky, you can see the Mt. Fuji view.
Overall, facilities tend to be a bit worn-out, but well-maintained. The housekeeping was excellent.
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, bathrobes, pajamas, a coffee machine, a Japanese tea set, and tea bags, etc. There are MIKIMOTO amenities in the bathroom. Room service is not available. Free Wi-Fi was good, but phone calls were easily disconnected. I noticed that there was a PC for someone to use at the lounge. A DVD & Blu-ray player was placed in our room. There is no convenience store around here. You may want to buy your necessities before coming here. There is no vending machine for drinks.
How about In-house Facilities?
There are small outdoor and indoor communal hot springs, but it seems that most of the guests didn’t use the communal baths. They are open for 24H. Also, there is a private family hot spring. It costs JPY3,300 for 60min.
There is a lounge, bar, spa shop, and amazing observatory terrace. During our stay, we saw the magnificent ocean from the terrace many times. It is a wonderful place where you can see far beyond the horizon. The sound of the waves and the wind relaxed us. Also, there is a Trekking course around the resort. If the weather is nice, you should definitely go trekking. You can get a map at the reception.
Then there is a wonderful spa shop. It’s open between 15:00 and 22:00. It seems that the spa is popular. If you want to have a treatment, you may want to make an appointment in advance when you book a room. *When you cancel it, you need to contact the staff at least one day in advance. Otherwise, you might be charged a 50% fee for day-of cancellations.

Then this is an almost universal design. Wheelchairs are available and there is room for wheelchair users. *Please note that there are only stairs to the observatory terrace.

How about meals?
The local seafood kaiseki using a lot of fresh ingredients is wonderful. If you love seafood, it would be one of the best resorts. On the other hand, if you don’t like seafood, I wouldn’t recommend the resort unless you have a car. There is no restaurant around here.
Then if you love wine, the resort would be paradise. A wine sommelier is available. There are a wide variety of wines.
All meals are served in a lovely dining room overlooking the ocean. If you want to have meals in your room, you should book a Premium Suite with private dining.
After dinner, some rice balls were served in our room. Dinner starts at 17:30 or 19:00.
*Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies. They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request it on that day.

My impressions
Overall, the resort would be impeccable. All staff was so friendly. The price range tends to be high, but it is well worth paying. The only drawback of the resort is that it is difficult to make reservations. There are many return guests all year round.
