What kind of ryokan is Hazu Gassyo?
This is a small luxury mountain hut-style ryokan in Aichi prefecture. The property is located deep in the mountains, surrounded by peaceful tea fields and mountains. We were overwhelmed by the massive traditional architecture. If you are looking for a traditional mountain hut-style ryokan in Aichi prefecture, you should stay here. Perhaps, if you plan to move between Tokyo and the Kansai areas by Shinkansen, such as Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, etc. why don’t you get off at Toyohashi Station on the way? The property would be great for couples, groups, family, or solo travelers. *A minimum age requirement of 7 applies.

Is the location easy to access?
Yes, take a Shinkansen from Nagoya Station and get off at Toyohashi Station. It takes 28min. Alternatively, you can take a Meitetsu line or Tokaido Main Line from Nagoya Station to Toyohashi Station. It takes around 55min.
Then change to JR Iida Line and get off at Yuya Onsen Station. It takes 70min from Toyohashi Station. Then a free shuttle service is available from YuyaOnsen Station. It takes 5min to the property. You need to book it in advance.
*Please note that the number of trains between Toyohashi Station and YuyaOnsen Station is limited, so it is recommended to check the schedule beforehand.
Where is the best accommodation for anniversaries?
If you are looking for a good place for a special occasion in Aichi, the property would be one of the best. The staff arranges cakes to celebrate an anniversary at an additional charge if you request in advance. This is like a hideaway for adults.
Rooms I would recommend?
If you are going to stay here, I would recommend a room with a private outdoor bath and a terrace. This is not a hot spring, but you can fully enjoy white noise and beautiful green while soaking in the bath. That’s precious time. Then if you don’t want to sleep on Japanese-style mattresses on tatami mats, you should book a room with twin beds.
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, samue outfits, tea bags, a complimentary mini-bar, and a green tea set, etc. There was no TV in our room. Room service is not available. Free Wi-Fi reception was excellent. Complimentary wine, beer, and fruit juice were available before dinner. There is no convenience store nearby. Also, there is no vending machine for drinks.
How about In-house Facilities?
There are small indoor and amazing outdoor communal baths. They are not hot springs, but they are used underground water. *If you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the communal bathing areas.
Then you can use communal hot springs in the sister inns nearby. If you want to try them, the staff brings you to the venues.
Then the property is not a universal design. There are some steps. If you bring someone with weak legs, I wouldn’t recommend the property.

How about meals?
The local food is wonderful, using lots of fresh local ingredients. When I stayed here in the winter season, the wild boar hot pot was especially delicious. Dinner starts at 18:00 or 18:30. Breakfast starts at 8:00 or 8:30. All meals are basically served in a dining area. If you prefer to eat in your room, let the staff know when you check in.
Then, they wouldn’t be able to arrange alternative food if you have food allergies.
Then, as far as I know, there is no restaurant near the property. Most of the local papa-mama shops are closing early. You may want to book a room with meals.

My impressions
The staff tends to be not sophisticated, but this is in Aichi prefecture so I guess it’s OK. If you want to relax in magnificent rich nature, it’s well worth staying.
