What kind of resort ryokan is Hyakuna Garan?
This is like a hideaway for adults. If you are looking for small luxury ryokans in Okinawa, you should stay here. This property would be one of the best in Okinawa. The architecture is a modern design expressing unique Okinawa’s sensitivity. Everything, such as decorations, interior, furniture, views, and small gardens, etc., is incomparable. We were so excited to explore around there after checking in. There are 18 rooms only. We hardly met other guests except for the dining room during our stay. Perhaps, if you get tired of typical luxury resort hotels, I would recommend it. The property must leave a lasting impression. Perhaps, if you are looking for unique venues in Okinawa for special occasions, such as honeymoon, anniversary, or birthday, etc., Hyakuna Garan would be perfect. The property would be great for couples, solo travelers, small groups, or families. If you bring small children, you can book a room called Garan Annex only. Other rooms have a minimum age requirement of 13 applies.

Is the location easy to access?
No, it would be a bit inconvenient. Because there is no public transportation from Naha Airport. You need to get a rental car. It takes 35min by car from the airport. There are many slops and curves on the way to the property. Alternatively, staff can arrange a TAXI at an additional charge, JPY10,000.
Rooms I would recommend?
If you are going to stay here, I would recommend rooms on the highest floor possible. You can appreciate the old-world beauty of the building with breathtaking ocean views in good weather. Facilities tend to be a bit worn out, but the housekeeping was excellent. The rooms are modern, user-friendly, and cozy. We fully enjoyed views of the beautiful ocean in emerald color while chilling out at the terrace with a beer in hand. That’s precious time.
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, a coffee machine with capsules, yukatas, pajamas, samue outfits, bathrobes, welcome fruits, local sweets, tea bags, and complimentary mini-bar including beer, soft drinks, and water bottles, etc. Also, you can borrow CD and DVD players, and compact speakers if you request. Turn-down service is not available. There were Mikimoto skincare products in our bathroom. Room service is available. There is no convenience store nearby. You might want to buy your necessities before coming here. The Free Wi-Fi reception was good on the property.
How about In-house Facilities?
There are 6 private family outdoor baths on 5F which you can use for free. You need to book them in advance. They are not hot springs, but ocean views would be amazing. All of them are open from 5:30-24:00. Also, there is a small library, a gallery, and a large room for Zen meditation on 2F. On top of that, there is a peaceful private beach in front of the property. You should visit the private beach during low tide. It’s fun to be able to walk where you can’t normally. You may discover a lot of rare creatures of the sea, such as octopus, mantis shrimp, small pufferfish, goby, and hermit crabs, etc.

How about meals?
The local food experience would be OK. Actually, the food looked absolutely beautiful but didn’t taste as good as it looked. Maybe the food was not to my taste. Also, the portion tends to be small. All meals are served in a dining area on 3F. Dinner time is from 18:00-22:00. Breakfast time is from 6:30-10:30. *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies. They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request it on that day. Also, as far as I know, there is no nice restaurant around here. You may want to book a room with meals. Then after dinner, don’t forget to take a walk around here. The building is amazingly illuminated at night. The place felt solemn and mysterious. The atmosphere feels completely different at night.
My impressions
All staff is truly excellent, gracious, and welcoming. If you experience signature Japanese hospitality, you should stay here. It couldn’t be better. Overall, you may feel a bit high-priced, but once you enter the property, you won’t regret your decision. At last, don’t forget to check the weather forecast before booking a room.
