The property is like a small village on Taketomi Island. We discovered many kinds of beautiful colorful butterflies on-site. This is like a paradise. Absolutely HOSHINOYA Taketomi Island is a perfect venue if you are looking for a refreshing oasis from hustle and bustle of city life. There is no better option than just chill out at the property. If you want to experience a “laid back life” on a beautiful Island, it’s well worth a visit. On the other hand, if you want to enjoy marine sports, local shopping, or attractions, etc., this is not. You may want to stay on the main island, Okinawa prefecture. To be frank, it would be inconvenient to visit Taketomi Island from Tokyo, Osaka, or Nagoya, etc., but once we arrived at the property, the stunning views made us feel so refreshed and revitalized. It was like we were frozen in time.

Is the location easy to access?
Free shuttle service is available from Taketomi Port. You need to book it in advance and inform the staff of your expected arrival time. Also, there is no parking lot on the property.
Is this child-friendly?
This is family-friendly. Staff can provide samue outfits, amenities, and meals for children if you request in advance. Baby food is available at JPY500. One child (ages 11 and under) per adult will be free of charge for co-sleep.

How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, samue outfits, pajamas, raincoats, a Japanese tea set, tea bags, bottled water, and sweets, etc. Then I didn’t see any convenience stores on the island. You may want to buy your necessities before coming to the island. Room service is available. You can get a password to connect to the internet, but the Free Wi-Fi reception was very slow on the property. I noticed that a PC was placed for someone’s use at the lounge. There is no TV in each room. Only a CD player was placed in our room.
How about In-house Facilities?
Facilities tend to be the latest. Each villa has a small private garden. Our tatami modern room was not user-friendly, but relaxed. Then there is a swimming pool in the garden. You may want to bring your own swimwear, swim rings, and swim caps, etc. if you use them. It’s open for 24H. Then the staff offers some kinds of free activities. You won’t get bored during your stay. Also, bicycles are available for borrowing. You need to book them in advance. We enjoyed going around the island by bicycle. You should go cycling in good weather. Please note that there are some unpaved roads around there. Unluckily, cycling wouldn’t be nice for children. Then there is a wonderful lounge on-site. Complimentary coffee, tea, shekwasha juice, local cookies, and snacks, etc., are available. Freshly-fried Okinawa donuts are available for free from 14:00. Also, many kinds of complimentary Awamoris *strong Okinawan liquor distilled from rice or millet are available from 20:00. A mini-concert is held at the lounge every evening.
Then HOSHINOYA Taketomi Island is not a universal design but there are very few steps in rooms. Also, staff can send you by resort cart when you move around in-house. If you bring people with weak feet, you may want to inform the staff in advance as they can arrange a villa near the reception. The property is large. Wheelchairs are available for borrowing.

How about meals?
The French food experience for dinner was just divine. If you are a gourmet, you should try it. Alternatively, you can request room service for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies. They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request it on that day. Then, as far as I know, there is no nice restaurant around the property. The location is on a small island. You may want to book a room including meals.
My impressions
The staff tends to be not sophisticated, but helpful, proactive, and friendly. If you expect 5-star hotel service, this is not. This is Taketomi Island. I guess it’s OK. If you really want to get much of an immersive “beautiful remote island” experience as you expect, you should stay here. At last, you might want to avoid staying between Aug and Sep. There is a high possibility that many typhoons approach the island during this period. On top of that, flights and ships would be often canceled due to typhoons.
