What kind of onsen villa is Ikkoten?
This is a luxury Japanese-style mountain villa with private hot springs. Each room has a wonderful outdoor private hot spring. The spring quality is amazing. We fully enjoyed our private onsen. This is like a hideaway for adults. We didn’t see other guests during our stay. If you want to enjoy your privacy and luxury in rich nature, it’s worth staying here. Perhaps if you want to bring your dogs, you should stay here. This is pet-friendly. There are two rooms where you can stay with your dogs. Also, there is a dog park on-site. The ambiance would be relaxed, tranquil, and serene. Ikkoten would be great for couples, small groups, family, or solo travelers.

Rooms I would recommend?
If you are going to stay here, I would recommend villa-type rooms with views of Mt.Yufu. That’s truly special. The stately interior, furniture, decorations absolutely create a mature impression. I heard that the owner is an antique art dealer. Then facilities tend to be the latest. Floor heating is installed.
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, pajamas, yukatas, samue outfits, a Japanese tea set, a coffee machine, and a complimentary mini-bar including beer, etc. Also, a CD player, a DVD player, and a humidifier were placed. Then there are some kinds of pillows which you can choose from. Complimentary coffee and plum wine were available in the lobby. Also, you can enjoy “Happy Hour” at the annex lounge between 16:00 and 17:30. It costs 1,500JPY. All you can drink, such as beer, wine, champagne, and orange juice, etc. Then there is no convenience store nearby. You may want to buy your necessities before coming here. Free Wifi reception was sometimes very slow in our room.
How about In-house Facilities?
There are two private family outdoor hot springs with awesome views of Mt.Yufu which you can use for free whenever they are not occupied. Don’t forget to try them. They are open from 7:00-10:00, 15:00-22:00. Then Ikkoten is a universal design. There is room for wheelchair users. A wheelchair is available for borrowing. If you bring people with weak feet, you may want to inform the staff in advance as they can arrange a room near the reception.

How about meals?
The kaiseki cuisine for dinner and breakfast was just divine. It may be a little challenging for the western palate but it’s worth trying it. Are you a gourmet? If so, you should try it. The portion tends to be big. You may want to bring your empty stomach. *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies or dietary needs. They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day. All meals are served in a private room in a dining area. Dinner starts at 18:00. Breakfast starts at 8:00 or 9:00. As far as I know, there is no nice restaurant for dinner around the property. The location is out of the way. You may want to book a room including meals unless you have a car. Then after dinner, don’t forget to visit the bar. You can enjoy drinking while listening to Jazz.

My impressions
All staff is gracious, helpful, and sincere. If you expect 5-star hotel service, you should stay here. Overall, it’s not cheap by all means but it’s worth every penny. Once you enter the gate, just get lazy and enjoy white noise from the forest and starry sky while soaking in your private bath, such an extraordinary experience. Anyway, the best season to stay here would be in spring or fall. On the other hand, I wouldn’t recommend staying in the summer season as there are many bugs around outdoor baths. At last, don’t forget to check the weather forecast before booking a room if you want to see a beautiful view of Mt.Yufu. Have a nice trip!
