What kind of onsen ryokan is Yufuin Hanayoshi?
This is a modern onsen ryokan with Mt. Yufu’s views. If you want to get much of an immersive “Mt.Yufu view” experience, you should stay here. We were so impressed with the view of the property. Perhaps if you want to enjoy hot springs with dynamic views, I would recommend it. The property would be great for families with small children, couples, or small groups, but not solo travelers. The ambiance would be family-oriented, cozy, and lively.
Is the location easy to access?
Yes, it would be easy. Free shuttle service is available from Yufuin Station between 15:00 and 17:00. You need to book it in advance.
Rooms I would recommend?
If you are going to stay here, I would recommend rooms with views of Mt.Yufu. Some rooms have no views. Actually, rooms with Mt.Yufu views are so popular all year round. If you want to stay in rooms with views, you may want to book a few months in advance. You can enjoy Mt.Yufu views from public places, such as a lobby, a terrace, and communal hot springs, etc., even if you don’t book rooms with the views. Then the room is spacious, functional, and relaxed. Facilities tend to be a bit worn out and outdated.
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, yukatas, a coffee machine with capsules, and green tea bags, etc. There are POLA skincare products for women and men in the bathroom. There are some colorful yukatas which you can choose from. Free Wifi reception was good on the property. A DVD player and an air cleaner were placed in our room. Room service is not available. There are some vending machines for drinks including beer. There is no convenience store nearby. You may want to buy your necessities before coming here. Complimentary coffee is available at the lobby lounge. Also, this is child-friendly. Staff can provide amenities, meals, and samue outfits for small children if you request.

How about In-house Facilities?
There are indoor and outdoor wonderful communal hot springs on 1F in the main building. You can chill out at the baths while viewing a stunning view of Mt.Yufu. They are open from 15:00-9:00 the following morning. There are no private family hot springs in-house. *If you have tattoos and want to use the communal hot springs, book a room with an outdoor private hot spring instead. Then Yufuin Hanayoshi is not a universal design. Wheelchairs are not available in rooms only. They are available for borrowing, though. Also, there is a long slope on the way to the Yumenosato area. If you bring people with weak feet, you may want to inform the staff in advance as they can arrange a room near the reception.

How about meals?
The kaiseki food experience was good, but it would be a typical menu. The portion tends to be average. All meals are served in a private room. Dinner starts from 17:30 or 18:00. Breakfast starts from 7:30, 8:00, or 8:30. *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies. They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day. Then, as far as I know, there is no restaurant around here. The location is out of the way. You may want to book a room including meals unless you have a car.
My impressions
The staff tends to be very warm, attentive, and helpful. They tend to be not sophisticated, but you can experience signature Japanese hostility during your stay. Overall, the price range would be reasonable. If you want to enjoy the amazing views of Mt.Yufu, you should stay here. Then if you drive a car, you should be careful as it’s often foggy outside around here. Yufuin’s weather is really changeable. Have a nice trip! Hi Hanna,
Thank you so much for your information on different hotels. Regarding Yufuin Hanayoshi, do you remember which room you stayed in? I want to stay in a room with views of Mt. Yufudake and an open air bath, but there are so many to choose from on the website and as you said some rooms don’t have views of the mountains/. Btw, I enjoyed reading your blog about Okuhita Onsen Umehibiki hotel. I’m definitely gong to stay there.
Thank you
Hi Sabrina
Thank you for your visiting my blog and message. We stayed at a room in Yumenosato Area. Most of rooms in the area have no views except “Yumenosato type E” and “Yumenosato Executive rooms”. If you want to view Mt. Yufudake from a room, you may want to book a room in Hanayoshi area, such as Hanayoshi type C, or Hanayoshi Japanese-Western style Room in the Hanayoshi main building. Actually we stayed here during busy season so we couldn’t book a room with views, but we enjoyed a beautiful Mt.Yufudake from the lobby and the outdoor public hot spring. Anyway I hope you would enjoy dynamic views at Umehibiki Ryokan in good weather. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Have a nice trip in Japan!
