Nagomi no Yado Kakujoro

Nagomi no Yado Kakujoro

What kind of ryokan is Nagomi no Yado Kakujoro?

This is a small luxury authentic gourmet ryokan in Aichi prefecture.  If you plan to move between Tokyo and the Kansai areas by Shinkansen, such as Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, etc. why don’t you get off at Toyohashi Station on the way?  Perhaps, if you want to get much of an immersive Japanese ryokan experience, you should stay here.  The ryokan is luxurious, authentic, and charming.  Everything, such as architecture, furniture, and decorations, etc., is amazing.  The main building was built more than 100 years ago but is surprisingly well-maintained.  Facilities tend to be the latest.  Also, there are some nice rooms with private outdoor baths.  On the other hand, if you love hot springs, this is not.  There is no hot spring here.

Once we arrived at the ryokan, we felt that I was being pulled into old Japan.  The ambiance would be perfect if you want to feel nostalgic.  The property would be great for couples, groups, family, or solo travelers.  *A minimum age requirement of 6 applies.

Is the location easy to access?

Yes, if you take a shinkansen from Nagoya Station, it takes 28min to Toyohashi Station, then a free shuttle service is available from Toyohashi Station at 14:15. It takes 75min from the Station to the property.  Don’t miss it.  You need to book it in advance.

Alternatively, you can take a Meitetsu line or Tokaido Main Line from Nagoya Station to Toyohashi Station.  It takes around 55min.

Where is the best accommodation for anniversaries?

If you are looking for a good place for a special occasion in Aichi, the property would be one of the best. The staff arranges flowers and cakes to celebrate an anniversary at additional charges if you request in advance.

Rooms I would recommend?

If you are going to stay here, I would recommend rooms in the main or the new building.  The rooms in the main building are quaint.  The rooms in the new building have nice balconies, outdoor private baths, and traditional peaceful views.  On the other hand, if you are a light sleeper, I wouldn’t recommend the rooms in the main building as they have no latest soundproofing.  Actually, my ear sometimes caught some noise when I was in the main building.  Also if you don’t want to sleep on Japanese-style mattresses on tatami mats, you should book a room with twin beds.

How about toiletries & in-room amenities?

All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, yukatas, tea bags, a coffee machine, and a green tea set, etc.  You can request CD players and air cleaners.  Room service is not available.  There is a convenience store nearby.  Free Wi-Fi reception was good.  Complimentary wine, beer, Japanese sake, coffee, and fruit juice are available at the lounge between 15:00 and 17:00.  You can relax with a beer in hand while viewing a traditional courtyard.

How about In-house Facilities?

There are nice indoor and outdoor communal baths.  They are not hot springs, but they are used underground water.  They are open from 6:00-10:00, 15:00-24:00. *If you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the communal bathing areas.  You should book rooms with outdoor private baths.

Then the property is no universal design, but there is room for wheelchair users which is called “Kiri” in the main building.  The room has an outdoor private bath.  Once you enter the room, you wouldn’t need to move around.

How about meals?

This is a nice gourmet ryokan.  The seafood kaiseki cuisine for dinner was wonderful.  If you love seafood, you should try it.  Then breakfast tends to be mediocre.  The portion would be average.  All meals are served in a dining area.  You can enjoy your meals while viewing a nice garden.  Dinner starts at 18:00, 18:30, or 19:00.  You need to check-in by 20:00 if you have dinner on the property.  Breakfast starts at 8:30 or 9:00.  *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request it on that day.  Then, as far as I know, there wouldn’t be nice restaurants near the property.  Most of the local papa-mama shops are closing early.  You may want to book a room with meals.

My impressions

The staff tends to be not sophisticated.  The hardware would be perfect, but the software wouldn’t be the same class.  If you expect a 5 hotel star service, this is not.

If you are traveling from Tokyo to Nagoya, Osaka, or Kyoto, etc. the property is a great venue to relax.  Have a nice trip!  Welcome to receive any questions about the property from the below space.  Check Availability and Pricing for the ryokan on Agoda
