Shiki no Yado Michinokuan

Shiki no Yado Michinokuan

What kind of onsen ryokan is Shiki no Yado Michinokuan?

This is my cup of tea.  If you are looking for top-notch ryokans in Miyagi prefecture, you should stay here.  Everything, such as interior, decoration, hospitality, and food, etc., is sophisticated.  This is like a hideaway for adults.  There are 10 rooms only.  We never met other guests during our stay.  Absolutely the ryokan completely emphasizes private experiences for each guest.  We felt the luxury and authenticity at once.  Once we arrived at the property, staff welcomed us warmly and we didn’t feel like we were checking in a ryokan, it was like we were being welcomed back home.  Then the staff served welcome coffee and ice cream.  We relaxed in the lobby while viewing a peaceful mountain landscape.  The property would be great for couples, families, small groups, or solo travelers.

Is the location easy to access?

Yes, take a Tohoku Shinkansen at Tokyo Station and get off at Shiroishizao Station.  It takes around 110min.  Then free shuttle service is available from Shiroishizao Station at 15:15 or Shiroishi Station at 15:20.  It takes 15min by car.  You need to book it in advance.

JFYI, it takes 13min by Shinkansen from Sendai Station to Shiroishizao Station.

Where is the best accommodation for anniversaries?

If you are looking for a good place for a special occasion, the property would be one of the best. The staff arranges flowers and cakes to celebrate an anniversary at additional charges if you request in advance.

Rooms I would recommend?

Shiki no Yado Michinokuan
If you are going to stay here, I would recommend a Japanese corner room.  You can see beautiful panoramic mountain views while chilling out in the room.  Then, if you don’t want to sleep on Japanese-style mattresses in tatami rooms, you may want to book a room with western beds.  Also, if you are a hot spring freak, you might want to book a room with an outdoor private hot spring.  Overall, the housekeeping was excellent.

How about toiletries & in-room amenities?

All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, yukatas, samue outfits, and a green tea set, etc.  There are POLA amenities in the bathroom.  Room service is not available.  There is no vending machine, but complimentary coffee is available in the lobby.  There is no convenience store nearby.  You may want to buy your necessities before coming here.  Free Wi-Fi reception was excellent on the property.  Also, this is child-friendly.  Staff can provide baby cribs, samue outfits, and amenities for small children if you request in advance.

How about In-house Facilities?

Overall, facilities tend to be the latest.  There are small indoor and outdoor communal hot springs.  All of them are open for 24H.  *If you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the communal bathing area.  Then the property is almost universal design.  There is room for wheelchair users.  Wheelchairs are available for borrowing.  If you bring people with weak feet, you may want to book a room with western twin beds and a private outdoor hot spring.  You wouldn’t need to move around once you enter your room.

How about meals?

The Kyoto kaiseki for dinner was just divine.  All local ingredients are so fresh, exquisite, and tasty.  If you are a gourmet, you should try it.  All meals are basically served in your room.  If you want to have meals in a private room with a table and chairs, staff can arrange it.  Dinner starts at 18:00 or 18:30.  Breakfast starts at 8:00 or 8:30.  *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request it on that day.  Then, as far as I know, there is no nice restaurant around there.  You may want to book a room with meals.

My impressions

The most important I would like to highlight is all staff is excellent, professional, and elegant.  if you expect signature Japanese hospitality with a personal touch, you should stay here.  Overall, the property has great value for money compared to Hakone, Izu, and Atami, etc.  If relaxation is your main purpose, this ryokan would be absolutely the perfect venue.  There are many local return guests.  Have a nice trip!  Welcome to receive any questions about the property from the below space.  Check Availability and Pricing for the resort on Shiki no Yado Michinokuan’s HP
