Hanaichi

Hanaichi

What kind of onsen ryokan is Hanaichi?

This is a very cozy modern onsen ryokan in the peaceful countryside called Tsumagoi Village.  Hanaichi I don’t want to share with anyone : )  Because there are 8 rooms only and there are many return guests.  It would be often fully booked.  If you are looking for a room with a private onsen, you should stay here.  There are some wonderful rooms with private ones.  Perhaps, if you want to relax while soaking in hot springs, this is one of the best.  On the other hand, if you want to hang out around onsen town in Yukata such as Kusatsu Onsen, Arima Onsen, Kurokawa Onsen, etc., this is not.  The property is surrounded by cabbage fields and country houses.  If you are expecting a typical onsen town, this is not the place for you.

Is the location easy to access?

No, traveling from Tokyo would be a little tricky.  You can take an express train at Ueno Station, then get off at Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi Station.  Then change to JR Agatsuma Line and get off at Manza-Kazawaguchi Station. It takes around 170min.

Alternatively, you can take an Hokuriku-Shinkansen at Tokyo Station, then get off at Takasaki Station.  Then change to an express train and get off at Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi Station.  Then change to JR Agatsuma Line and get off at Manza-Kazawaguchi Station. It takes around 150min.

A free shuttle service from Manza-Kazawaguchi Station is available at 15:00 only.  Don’t miss it.  You need to book it in advance.

Rooms I would recommend?

If you are going to stay here, I would recommend a room with an outdoor private hot spring.  Also, if you stay in the winter season, you should book a room called KARIN.  The room has a nice fireplace.  The time to relax in front of the fireplace is great.  Then if you don’t want to sleep on Japanese-style mattresses in tatami rooms, you should stay in a room with twin beds.

How about toiletries & in-room amenities?

All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, yukatas, samue-outfit, and a Japanese tea set in rooms.  Room service is not available.  There is no convenience store within walking distance. You might want to buy your necessities before coming here.  Free Wi-Fi reception was good in our room.  Complimentary coffee and Japanese sake are available at the lounge.  There is a vending machine for drinks.

How about In-house Facilities?

Facilities tend to be the latest.  There are outdoor and indoor communal hot springs.  They are open for 24H.  Also, there is a private family hot spring that guests can use for free.  It’s open from 15:00-23:00.  You need to book when you want to use it.  *If you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the communal bathing area.  You should use the private family one instead.

Then there are a cozy library and lounge while drinking.  You can relax while looking at Mt. Asama and cabbage fields in good weather.

Then this is not a universal design.  There is no elevator.  There are some steps.  If you bring people with weak feet, you should find others.

How about meals?

The local food experience for dinner and breakfast was wonderful.  If you love Japanese food, you should try it.  The food tends to be sophisticated.  The portion tends to be average.  Also, you can order meals for children.  All meals are served in your room, a private room, or a dining area.

Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request it on that day.

Then, as far as I know, there is no restaurant around here.  You may want to book a room including meals.

My impressions

All staff is so warm, friendly, and attentive. If you want to experience signature Japanese hospitality, this is one of the best.  Overall, I think that the small ryokan has a good value for money.  If you are going to stay here, you might want to check-in in the early afternoon and chill out here.  While spending time here, I completely forgot about my daily life.  The scenery of the countryside, the sound of birds singing, the sound of trucks plowing the fields, the fresh air, the clear blue sky, all heal.  Have a nice trip!  Welcome to receive any questions about the property from the below space.  *No cards accepted.  Availability and Pricing for the ryokan on Agoda
