What kind of ryokan is Toba International Hotel Shiojitei?
This is a luxury boutique ryokan in TOBA. There are 46 rooms only. If you plan to visit Ise Grand Shrine and Kumano Kodo, you should stay here. Perhaps, if you love outdoor baths, I would recommend it. There is no hot spring here, but there are amazing pearl communal baths. It’s worth trying it. Also, there are some awesome rooms with private outdoor baths and small inner gardens.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a room with nice ocean views, this is not. Most of the rooms have no nice views. You should stay in the sister inn, Toba International Hotel.
All staff welcomed us warmly and coffee and cheesecake were served when we checked in at the lobby. That’s great service.
The ryokan would be great for couples, families, groups, or solo travelers.

Is the location easy to access?
Yes, it would be easy. Take an express Kintetsu Nagoya Line at Kintetsu Nagoya Station. Then get off at Ise Grand Shrine. It takes around 100min. Then free shuttle service is available from Toba Station. Take exit 1 and this is where you will board the shuttle bus. It takes 5min by car. You need to book it in advance.
If you visit Toba from Osaka, Kyoto, or Kobe, please feel free to contact me at the below. I will tell you how to get there.
Then if you visit Ise Grand Shrine from Toba Station, a shuttle service called Ise-Futami-Toba bus is available. It takes around 45min.
Rooms I would recommend?
If you are going to stay here, I would recommend a room with a private outdoor bath. You can soak in the private one while viewing a small traditional garden whenever you like. On the other hand, I wouldn’t recommend standard Japanese rooms because facilities would be worn out.
Then if you don’t want to sleep on Japanese-style mattresses on tatami mats, you should book a room with twin beds.
Is this child-friendly?
Yes, if you bring small children, you should inform the staff in advance as they arrange amenities. Baby cots are available at PY2,200. *One child up to 2 ages per adult will be free of charge for co-sleep.
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, yukatas, a Japanese tea set, etc. There are MIKIMOTO amenities in the bathroom. Complimentary coffee is available at the lobby lounge. Room service is not available. Free Wi-Fi was available. There is no convenience store around here. You may want to buy your necessities before coming here. There are vending machines for drinks.
How about In-house Facilities?
There is no hot spring, but there are wonderful communal pearl baths. Don’t forget to try them. They are not hot springs, though. They are open from 5:30-11:00, 13:00-24:00. *Please note that if you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the communal bathing area, so you should book a room with a private bath.
Also, there is an amazing spa shop in the sister inn, Toba International Hotel. If you want to have a pearl treatment at PEARL SPA by MIKIMOTO COSMETICS, you need to make an appointment at the reception in advance. It’s open between 14:00 and 23:00.
Then if you bring someone with weak legs, you should inform staff in advance as they arrange a room near the lift. Wheelchairs are available for borrowing.

How about meals?
There are French, Japanese, teppanyaki restaurants, cafe, and bar in-house. Most of the guests in Shiojitei have dinner at the Japanese restaurant, but if you are going to stay here or at the sister inn, Toba International Hotel, I would recommend the French restaurant. You need to move to the next sister inn, though. The food is equivalent to Michelin 1 or 2 stars. Actually, the french restaurant is often fully booked. If you prefer French to Japanese food, you should book a table in advance. *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies. They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request it on that day.
Then, as far as I know, there is no nice restaurant near the property. Most of the local papa-mama shops are closing early. You may want to book a room with meals unless you drive a car yourself.
My impressions
All staff is excellent. They would be first class. If you want to get a much of an immersive ryokan experience, you should stay here. Then if you want to chillax to the max at the ryokan in a tranquil atmosphere, you might want to avoid staying here between late April to early May, and the end of year and New Year holiday. The above periods would be so busy. Welcome to receive any questions about the property from the below space. Check Availability and Pricing for the ryokan on Agoda
