Resort Kumano Club

If you are looking for Japanese-style mountain villas with private outdoor baths, you should stay here.  Perhaps, if you are going to Kumano Kodo, I would highly recommend it.  The ambience is cozy, tranquil and family-oriented.  The property would be great for family with kids, groups, or couples, but not solo travelers.  If you are going to stay here, I would highly recommend booking a room with a private outdoor bath in the annex.  This is not a hot spring, though.  Facilities tend to be the latest.  The room is spacious, relaxed and clean.  All of amenities are taken care of including minimum toiletries, samue outfits, a Japanese tea set and bottled water, etc.  Room service is not available.  There is a vending machine for drinks.  Complimentary coffee, tea, and sweets, etc., were available at the café from 14:30-19:00.  Also complimentary many kinds of Japanese sakes, beer, and shochu, etc., are available at the bar from 20:00-22:00.  There is no convenience store nearby.  You may want to buy your necessities before coming here.  Then the property is basically universal design but it’s really big premise.  This is like a small village.  There are some steps and slopes when you move around in-house.  Wheelchairs are available for borrowing.  To be frank, I wouldn’t recommend this property if you bring people with weak feet.  We got lost in the property at night after we enjoyed drinking at the bar when we went back to our room.  The outside was very dark.  There were few lights on-site.  If you are going to stay here, you may want to check in earlier and explore in-house while it’s light out.  Otherwise, you may get lost like us when you go to the public areas, such as the front lobby, the public hot springs, and the dining area, etc.  Actually a circle bus on-site is available for free, but you may need to wait for the bus.  It would be inconvenient.  Walking would be faster than waiting the bus.  Then bicycles are available for borrowing from 8:00-17:00.  Wifi reception is available around the front desk only.  We couldn’t connect to the internet in our room.  Also there are public hot springs in-house.  They are open from 6:00-9:30, 15:00-23:30.  *Please note that if you have tattoos and want to use the public hot springs, book a room with a private outdoor bath.  Then local cuisine for dinner was good, but the portion tends to be small.  The buffet-style local food for breakfast was also good , but it wouldn’t be special.  All drinks including alcohols are complimentary.  All meals are served in a dining area.   *Please note that inform staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day.  Then as far as I know, there wouldn’t be nice restaurants around the property.  The location is out of the way.  You may want to book a room including meals.  After dinner, don’t forget to visit the bar.  There was a live guitar performance when we stayed.  If you are a hard drinker, this would be a paradise.  Then staff tends to be patchy.  Their hospitality would be more like typical chain hotels.  Also I noticed that the property would be under staffed.  This is Mie prefecture.  I guess it’s OK.  Overall, the property has great value for money.  Absolutory one night stay wouldn’t be enough.  We fully enjoyed peaceful landscapes and wonderful starry sky.  Anyway if you are going to stay here, you may want to join “Kumano Kodo tour” organized by the property.  It costs 2,500JPY for per person.  You need to bring your trekking shoes or sneakers.  You need to book it 5 days in advance you check in.  The tour is rained out.  Then if you want to relax in a tranquil atmosphere, you may want to avoid staying during late April to early May, the third week of July to late Aug, weekends in Nov, and the end of year and New Year holiday.  The property would be crowded.  At last, don’t forget to check a weather forecast before booking a room.  If it’s rainy, it would be bit hard to move around in-house.  The location is 15min drive from Kumanoshi Station.  Free shuttle service is available as below.  You need to book it in advance.
From Kumanoshi Station to Resort Kumano Club at 13:30, 16:30, 18:00
