Mimasuya

Mimasuya

What kind of onsen ryokan is Mimasuya?

This is a small onsen ryokan.  There are 15 rooms only.  If you have a chance to visit Yugawara Onsen, I would recommend staying here.  Perhaps, if you are a connoisseur of Japan, you should stay here.  The property is like a museum.  If you love Japanese culture, you must be so excited when you explore Mimasuya.  The stately interior, historical decorations, and antique furniture create a mature impression.  Once we arrived at the lobby, elegant staff welcomed us warmly and escorted us to a beautiful western-Japanese room.  The building was built more than 70 years ago.  Facilities tend to be outdated, but well-maintained, renovated, and very clean. The ambiance is tranquil, charming, and quaint.  Mimasuya would be great for couples, families, small groups, or solo travelers.  We never met other guests when we stayed on weekdays.  The ryokan completely emphasizes private experiences for each guest.

Is the location easy to access?

Yes, it takes 20min on foot from Yugawara Station, but there are some steep slopes.  It is located on a hill.  You may want to take a taxi from the station.  It costs around JPY800.  There is no free shuttle service.  It takes 50min by train from Tokyo Station to Yugawara Station.

Rooms I would recommend?

If you are going to stay here, I would recommend Japanese-style superior rooms.  The rooms are spacious, classy, and chic.  We felt that the luxury and authenticity at once.  If you are looking for rooms with outdoor private hot springs, you should book a suite room.  Then if you don’t want to sleep on Japanese-style mattresses in tatami rooms, you may want to book rooms with twin beds on tatami mats.

How about toiletries & in-room amenities?

All of the amenities are taken care of including minimum toiletries, yukatas, and green tea bags, etc.  Room service is not available.  There is a vending machine for drinks.  Free Wi-Fi is available in the lobby only.  I noticed that a PC was placed in the lobby to use someone.  There is a convenience store nearby, but there are some steep slopes around the property, so you may want to buy your necessities before coming here.  *Basically, food and drink from outside are prohibited.   Then this is child-friendly.  Staff can provide yukatas, meals, and futons for children if you request in advance.  I noticed that there is a small kids’ playroom with toys.

How about In-house Facilities?

Mimasuya is not a universal design.  There are some steps.  This is like a maze.  If you bring people with weak feet, I wouldn’t recommend it.  Then there are small indoor and outdoor communal hot springs.  The spring quality is creamy, thick, and moist.  Once you try them, you may become a hot spring freak.  All of them are open from 15:00-10:00 the following morning.  *If you have tattoos, you may not be permitted to use the communal bathing area.  You may want to book a suite room with an outdoor private one instead.

How about meals?

Mimasuya is one of the auberge ryokans.  Kyoto kaiseki food experience was just divine.  If you are a gourmet, you should stay here.  The potion tends to be average.  All meals are served in your room or a private room.  Dinner starts at 18:00 or 18:30.  You need to check in by 18:00 if you have dinner on the property.  Breakfast starts at 8:00 or 8:30.  Alternatively, you can go out for dinner as there are some restaurants around Yugawara Station, but you need to take a taxi.  It takes 5min by car.  Actually, once you enter the property, you wouldn’t feel like going out after enjoying the hot springs.  You may want to have meals on the property.  *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day.

My impressions

All staff is excellent.  If you expect signature Japanese hospitality with a personal touch, you should stay here.  They are the loveliest group.  It would be hard to compare with any place.  We did appreciate their amazing service.  On top of that, Mimasuya has great value for money, so there are many return guests all year round.  Have a nice trip!  Welcome to receive any questions about Mimasuya from the below space.  Check Availability and Pricing for Mimasuya on Agoda
