What kind of resort hotel is Atami Kaihourou?
This is like a modern art museum. If you are in Tokyo, you should visit here. It’s truly worth it. I’m sure that the property must leave a lasting impression. Perhaps, if you are keen on the architecture of Mr. Kengo Kuma who is a famous Japanese architect, I would recommend it. He designed this thought of every element to bring a beautiful harmony to each room. It creates a totally different world. We were overwhelmed by the beauty of his architecture. We almost forgot we were in Atami. On the other hand, if you are looking for rooms with private hot springs in Atami, this is not. Kaihourou would be wonderful for couples, small groups, or solo travelers. *A minimum age requirement of 10 applies. The ambiance is serene, tranquil, and sophisticated.
Is the location easy to access?
Yes, a free shuttle service is available from Atami station. You need to book it in advance. A driver is very flexible. He may be able to send you to a sightseeing spot after check-out if you request.
Where is the best accommodation for anniversaries?
If you are looking for venues for special occasions, the property would be one of the best. The staff arranges flowers and cakes to celebrate an anniversary at additional charges if you request in advance.

How about rooms?
There are four rooms only. We never met other guests during our stay. The room tends to be spacious, functional, and relaxed. You can chill out in the room while seeing peaceful views in good weather. Facilities tend to be the latest. Unluckily, there is no room with private outdoor hot springs.
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, colorful yukatas, pajamas, bathrobes, a Nespresso machine with many capsules, a green tea set, and a complimentary mini-bar including beer, etc. Also, a humidifier, a DVD player, a Blu-ray player, a Bluetooth speaker, and a CD player were placed in our room. You can travel light. Free WiFi reception was good in our room. Complimentary coffee, milk, beer, and water, etc., are available at the lounge and the private family bath. Room service is available until 22:00. There is a convenience store within walking distance.
How about In-house Facilities?
There is only one private family hot spring in-house. You can complimentary use it for 50min. You need to book it when you check in if you want to use it. It is open from 6:00-10:00, 15:00-24:00. There is no communal hot spring. Then the property is not a universal design. There is no lift. That’s too bad. If you bring people with weak feet, I wouldn’t recommend it. There are some steps when you move around.
How about meals?
The kaiseki cuisine was just divine. The food is top-notch. If you are a gourmet, you should stay here. After dinner, some rice balls for a night snack were served in our room. Then you can choose either Japanese or western food for breakfast. *Please note that inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies or dietary needs. They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day. All meals are served in a dining area. If you book a luxury room, you may have a chance to have meals on the water balcony. You need to book it a few months in advance, though. You can take a look at the amazing water balcony whenever nobody uses it. After dinner, don’t forget to visit the bar.

My impressions
All staff is excellent. If you expect 5-star hotel service, you should stay here. They are professional, sophisticated, and proactive. Overall, everything was impeccable, such as staff, hospitality, food, and views, etc. Considering everything, the property has good value for money. At last, don’t forget to check the weather forecast before booking a room. That’s the most important. If it’s fine, just go ahead. There is no better option than just viewing a clear blue sky, a deep blue ocean, a sunset over the sea, and a sky full of stars. Enjoy being completely lazy. Have a nice trip!
