Nansuikaku

If you are looking for small onsen ryokans in Fukuoka, you should stay at Nansuikaku.  Perhaps, if you are looking for rooms with private hot springs, I would highly recommend it.  This wouldn’t be luxury, but truly relaxing.  It’s a mix of old and modern styles.  The ambiance is serene, charming, and tranquil.  Nansuikaku would be great for couples, families, small groups, or solo travelers.  *Solo travelers can book rooms on weekdays only.  If you are going to stay here, I would highly recommend booking a room with a private hot spring.  We fully enjoyed our private one until check-out time while hearing white noise from the river.  The spring quality tends to be soft, smooth, and moist.  Facilities tend to be the latest.  The housekeeping was excellent.  There was no nice view from the room.  Also, if you don’t want to sleep on Japanese-style mattresses in tatami rooms, you may want to book a room with twin beds on tatami mats.  Then all of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, yukatas, Japanese sweets, and a Japanese tea set, etc.  Also, CD players, humidifiers, and baby cribs are available for borrowing if you request in advance.  Free WiFi reception was available around the lobby only.  We couldn’t connect to the internet in our room when we stayed in 2018.  Complimentary coffee is available at the lounge.  Room service is available for drinks only from 15:00-22:00.  There is a vending machine in-house.  There is no convenience store nearby.  You may want to buy your necessities before coming here.  *Drink from outside is prohibited.  Then Nansuikaku is almost universal design.  If you bring people with weak feet, you may want to inform the staff in advance as they can arrange a room near the entrance.  A wheelchair is available for borrowing.  Then there is a variety of communal hot springs in-house.  The indoor communal ones are open from 5:45 to 9:30, 11:00-23:00.  The outdoor communal ones are open from 11:00-22:30.  Then there are seven private family hot springs.  You can use one of them for free whenever it’s not occupied.  If you want to use the others, you need to pay an additional fee JPY1,620 for 40min.  You should try the private family one called Yumegomori.  *If you have tattoos and want to use the communal hot springs, use reserved private family ones instead, or book a room with a private one.  Then Japanese local food was wonderful.  They use a lot of seasonal ingredients just right for that season.  It may be a little challenging for the western palate but the food was tasty, exquisite, and fresh.  Also, you can order meals for small children.  All meals are served in a dining area or your room.  It depends on which room you book.  If you book a room with a private hot spring, all meals are served in your room.  If you book others, all meals are served in a dining area.  Alternatively, if you request to serve meals in your room, you need to pay an additional fee of JPY2,000 per person.  Then inform the staff when you book a room with meals if you have any food allergies.  They probably wouldn’t be able to prepare alternative food if you request on that day.  Then there is no restaurant around here.  The location is out of the way.  You may want to book a room including meals.  Then all staff tends to be very warm, helpful, and attentive.  You can experience signature Japanese hospitality during your stay.  Overall, the property has good value for money.  If relaxation is your main goal in Fukuoka, it’s well worth a visit.  Then access to the property would be easy.  Free shuttle service is available from Sasaguri Station at 15:00 on weekdays only.  You need to book it by 2 days in advance.  *No free shuttle service on Saturdays and Sundays.  It takes 30min by car from the station.  Alternatively, you can take a taxi from Sasaguri Station.  It costs around JPY4,000.  Have a nice trip!  Welcome to receive any questions about Nansuikaku from the below space.  *All information is as of the date that I posted on my blog.  Check-in and out times 15:00/10:00  Check Availability and Pricing for Nansuikaku on Booking.com or Agoda
