What kind of resort hotel is Garden Terrace Fukuoka?
During the hot summer season in August, we took a cab from Fukuoka Airport around 3:00 p.m. with our two small children to the resort hotel where we would be staying. The trip took about 50 minutes. The resort hotel was a bit far from the central area of Fukuoka, so we didn’t feel the hustle and bustle of the city. Upon arrival at the resort hotel, we saw a fountain in front of the entrance, a harmonious Western-style building and a modern design with wood and bricks.
To get straight to the point, our stay exceeded our expectations in terms of facilities, service, food, and room. The view from our room window was not exceptional, but other than that it was perfect. The lounge and poolside area were especially comfortable and gave us a resort-like feeling. Then the location was more accessible than we expected, being only a 50 minute cab ride from Fukuoka Airport. It would not be recommended for business travelers as it is inconveniently located 7 minutes by cab from the nearest station, Meinohama Station, but if you are visiting for sightseeing, this resort hotel is great as there is an idyllic yacht harbor and shopping malls nearby.
When we got off the cab, the staff carried our luggage for us. With small children, we had a lot of luggage, so this was very helpful. Then, from the entrance, we passed through a spacious area and entered an accommodation building with a beautiful blue outdoor swimming pool in front of us. The lobby, where the reception desk is located, was an open space with a vaulted ceiling and large windows allowing sunlight to stream in. Looking up a bit, I saw incoming clouds and a blue sky. The modern furniture, stylish lattice design on the walls, and the white Western-style and brick buildings visible through the large windows also added to the resort setting. As we were checking in, we felt like we were on a resort island, so much so that we wondered if we were really in Fukuoka.
We sat on a long sofa in front of a large window and the staff prepared cinnamon tea for my husband and I and orange juice for the kids. After a while, the staff showed us to our room.
This time we stayed in a room on the 4th floor. There are 19 rooms in total and all of them have jacuzzis and balconies. The gray-beige wooden door opened into the room, and there was a partition made of wooden lattice, with a twin bedroom on the right side. There was a table and L-shaped sofa by the window, and another sofa and table on the balcony. On the left side, there was a spacious bathroom. There was a Jacuzzi by the bathroom window. The view from the balcony was of the outskirts of Fukuoka City. In front of it was a water treatment plant, and behind it was Marinoa City Fukuoka. At night, the Ferris wheel of Marinoa City Fukuoka and Fukuoka Tower could be seen in the distance. It was a pity that it was not a special view.
After this we headed downstairs to the lounge at the end of the lobby. The kids brought their swimming wear to play in the outdoor pool, which they were looking forward to, so they changed into their swimwear in the room. There is no changing room near the outdoor pool. Swimwear and floats are available for free rental. The outdoor pool is available from April to November.
Then the lounge was well stocked with beverages: free coffee, cappuccino, cafe latte, espresso, tea, milk, yogurt, cinnamon tea, orange juice, Sprite, Coca-Cola, Budweiser, Asahi beer, champagne, shochu, wine, etc. There were also peanuts, potato chips, snacks, Okinawa donut, a glass fridge with cheese, carpaccio, cured ham, baked goods, cheesecake, chocolate cake, caramel mousse cake, jelly, dried figs, and more. It was a paradise for those of us who like to drink. The lounge is open from 16:00 to 22:00 and 11:00 to 12:00.
We sat on deck chairs by the outoor pool at dusk when it was a little cooler and enjoyed champagne and wine, while the kids had a great time in the pool. Since we were visiting during the summer vacation season in Japan, we saw many families with children like us. According to the staff, this resort hotel is quiet on weekdays, so there are many couples, but on weekends and during summer vacation, there tend to be many families with children.
After this, we had dinner at 5:30 p.m., so we headed to the teppanyaki and sushi restaurant next to the lobby. The teppanyaki counter was on the window side of the restaurant and the sushi counter was in the back. You can choose either the teppanyaki course or the sushi course. We chose the teppanyaki course. The Itoshima beef and lobster were superbly cooked by the chef on the teppan in front of us. For dessert, the chef baked crepes right in front of us and served them with bananas and vanilla ice cream. We also pre-ordered the teppanyaki course for the kids. Soup, steak, sausage, nigiri sushi, dessert, etc. were served.
We finished dinner before 7:00 p.m., so we again sat on the deck chairs by the illuminated pool next to the restaurant and enjoyed champagne while feeling a pleasant breeze. We would have liked to stay a little longer, but the kids were getting sleepy, so we decided to go back to our room and get some rest.
Back in our room, the kids had gone to bed and we decided to grab a bottle of champagne from the mini-bar and sit on the balcony couch to drink it. At this point, what was a little disappointing was the sound of the cars as we were facing the main street. When we were in our room, it didn’t bother us because the building has a soundproofing system, but when we were on the balcony, the noise was bothersome. By the way, the free in-room mini-bar contained champagne, Asahi beer, Coca-Cola, green tea, and milk.
The next day, I woke up around 7:00 a.m. and decided to enjoy the Jacuzzi bath with my children. I opened the window next to the Jacuzzi bath and a refreshing breeze came in. The view outside was nothing special, but there was a blue summer sky early in the morning.
We then had breakfast at the restaurant next to the lobby around 8:00. Breakfast was all-you-can-eat, with 12 a la carte dishes. Fresh salad, mentaiko and pork dumpling, egg and ham schnitzel, beef steak, offal hotpot, chicken hotpot, beef curry, pancakes, French toast, vegetable smoothies, ice cream, assorted fruits, and many other delicious and diverse dishes made us feel happy in the morning. In addition, omelets, steaks, and pancakes were cooked by the chef on the griddle in front of us.
After breakfast, the kids wanted to play in the pool, so we relaxed by the outdoor pool. We planed to go for a walk around the yacht harbor or to Marinoa City Fukuoka, but it was already over 35 degrees Celsius outside, so we stayed at the cool poolside and lounge until 12:00, when we checked out. Probably the most comfortable resort hotel in Fukuoka Prefecture. Next time we would like to visit in spring or fall when we can feel the refreshing sea breeze.
