Over the past few years, there has been a rapid increase in the number of traditional machiya-style accommodations, known as “machiya. If you are interested in a machiya, we would recommend the properties below. Then, since many machiyas are old wooden structures, you may hear sounds of life from outside. Also, traditional wooden buildings can get cold in winter. Although the machiyas are equipped with heating systems, we would recommend that you stay in other seasons if you do not like the cold. Winters in Kyoto are very cold.
