What is Kinosaki Onsen?
Kinosaki Onsen, with a history of approximately 1,300 years, is a small hot spring resort town that is very enjoyable to walk around. Restaurants, cafes, and souvenir shops line the streets. Visitors can stroll along the willow trees along Otani River in yukata, squeaking their wooden clogs called getas, and enjoy visiting the seven onsen hopping scattered throughout the area. Kinosaki Onsen is also conveniently located, accessible by express train or bus from Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe. It takes about 2.5 hours by train, or 3.5 hours by bus.
When is the best season?
Kinosaki Onsen is at its busiest during the winter season. Many tourists come to Kinosaki Onsen for its famous onsens and crab, and ryokan are fully booked every day. In fact, however, each of spring, summer, fall, and winter has its own charm, making it a hot spring resort that can be fully enjoyed in seasons other than winter. In spring, the rows of cherry blossom trees along Otani River are beautiful, in early summer fireflies fly, in summer you can stroll through the hot spring resort watching fireworks, in autumn you can be enveloped in the traditional Japanese atmosphere while viewing the autumn leaves, and in winter the snowy landscape looks like the setting of novels or movies.
