What kind of luxury hotel is Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel
?
We stayed at this hotel during a family visit to Osaka with our two small children. To get straight to the point, we have tried Marriott hotels in Okinawa, Tokyo, Lake Yamanaka, etc., but none of them satisfied us very well. Therefore, we thought that this hotel in Osaka would be the same, and we had not used it until now. However, this time, perhaps because of the busy summer vacation season, our first choice, The Ritz-Carlton Osaka and St. Regis Osaka, were fully booked, so we had no choice but to stay at this hotel. When we actually stayed at the hotel, we were greatly betrayed, but in a good way. Unfortunately, there is no swimming pool in the hotel, but we were amazed by the wonderful club lounge on 38F and the spectacular view from our room on 55F. We thought this hotel was second only to The Ritz-Carlton Osaka and St. Regis Osaka in terms of the level of satisfaction we felt.
My husband and I visited Osaka on a July weekend after the rainy season to take our children to USJ. We boarded the Shinkansen from Tokyo Station before noon, got off at Shin Osaka Station, transferred to the Midosuji Subway Line, and got off at Tennoji Station. The hotel is directly connected to the station, which was very convenient. Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel is located in Abeno Harukas, the tallest building in Osaka. It is a building that stands out even from a distance. The skyscraper towering in front of Tennoji Station was spectacular even when seen up close. The area around the hotel is a miscellaneous downtown area near Tsutenkaku Tower and Namba.
We took the elevator to the 19th floor where the reception lobby is located. After exiting the elevator and passing through a passageway overlooking the Osaka cityscape, we arrived at the spacious hotel lobby with high ceilings. The lobby floor was bright and open with light shining through the large windows, and we often gazed at the vast blue sky of Osaka, thinking how beautiful it was. We booked a room on the club floor, so the staff immediately guided us to the club lounge on the 38th floor. The Club Lounge was also crowded, but we waited for our turn to check in while enjoying afternoon tea.
The hotel’s club lounge was surprisingly good, though not as good as The Ritz-Carlton Osaka. It would be definitely on a higher level than Conrad Osaka. Then it was much more extensive than the club lounges at other Marriott hotels in Japan. The hospitality of the club lounge staff was excellent, which made a good impression on us. Also, the fact that beer and sparkling wine were served from the time of afternoon tea was a nice touch for those of us who like to drink. However, the Club Lounge on the 38th floor is a spacious place with a 9-meter-high ceiling, but it was a bit disappointing that we could not see the skyscrapers of Osaka City from here. The Club Lounge has a vaulted ceiling that gives it a liberating feeling, and although there were windows, the outside was a terrace.
At the buffet counter, ham sandwiches, egg sandwiches, cheese scones, plain scones, clotted cream, cookies, fraise de bois pistache, tart figs, coco pistache, potato chips, strawberry panna cotta with raspberry sauce, Exotic mousse and coconut chantilly, peach and lime juleps, macarons vanilla, fruit, and other refined sweets. Drinks included Asahi beer, Kirin beer, Heineken, Pol Messer Brut sparkling wine, ginger ale, orange juice, apple juice, orange juice, milk, coffee, and tea, etc.
We checked in and the staff showed us to the room we would be staying in. We stayed in a room on the 55th floor of the club floor. Then as soon as we entered the room, we were immediately taken aback by the amazing view we could see from the large windows. Even the kids stuck to the windows for a while and didn’t want to leave the place. The view of the city of Osaka that we had just seen from the 19th floor reception lobby was not so special, but it was powerful. Still, compared to the view from the 55th floor, it was completely different. It was a wonderful room that gave me a magical feeling, as if I were living above the sky. Most of the rooms are on the north or south side, but if you are staying at this hotel, the best rooms are on the north side, where you can see the skyscrapers of Osaka. The ambience of the rooms was not particularly luxurious, but the furnishings were calm and relaxing. It was functional and comfortable. We sat on the couch by the window for a while, quenching our thirst with refreshing drinks from the mini-bar and enjoying the spectacular view of Osaka city spread out under the blue summer sky. By the way, the mini-bar in the Club Floors and Suites rooms is free of charge. Tea, Pepsi, Heineken, Suntory beer, sparkling water, red wine, white wine, champagne, and orange juice were available.
After this, we decided to visit Abeno Harukas Art Museumon the 16th floor of the same building as the hotel. At the time of our visit, the 120th Aniversary Exhibition Peeter Rabbit was being held.
Back at the hotel, we were getting hungry after all the walking around at the museum. We headed back to the Club Lounge on the 38th floor. At the buffet counter, we found a selection of meatballs, fried chicken, bacon and spinach quiche, bruschetta, bruschetta with rum raisin butter, braised spring onions, steamed chicken, pork Mexican, roast beef, vegetable and sausage ario aurio, smoked cheese, cheddar cheese, bucket, bread rolls, cauliflower soup, salads, vegetable sticks, snacks, phrases de bois pistache, opera, canele, etc. The food was so substantial that there was no need to go to dinner. Drinks included whiskey, cognac, liqueurs, sake, shochu, beer, Michelin Rouge and Dark Horse Pinot Noir for red wine, and Michelin Lynch Blanc and Dark Horse Chardonnay for white wine. Also, there are many restaurants on the 12th, 13th, and 14th floors of Abeno Harukas, where our hotel was located, plus a variety of other eateries around the hotel, but we ended up having dinner at the Club Lounge. *In 2022, when we stayed, children under elementary school age were allowed to use until 19:30, but from January 2023, children under elementary school age will be allowed until 17:30.
After this, we decided to visit the observation deck on the 60th floor of Abeno Harukas, about 300 meters above the ground. Hotel guests can receive free admission tickets when they check in. We first went to the 16th floor, where the entrance to the observation deck is located, and took the direct high-speed elevator. The elevator took us from the 16th to the 60th floor in about 50 seconds. Once we got off the elevator, the observation deck was more spacious than we expected. It was just before 7 p.m. when we arrived, and the 360-degree glass observation deck offered a glittering night view that looked like a jewel box turned upside down. The lights of the buildings and the orange-lit highway created a magnificent carpet of light, creating a romantic atmosphere. We were impressed by the night view, which was more powerful than we had imagined. The view from Abeno Harukas is definitely better at night than during the day. We felt as if we were taking a walk in the sky, looking down at the glittering night view.
After this, we returned to our room on the 55th floor, where the view from the observation deck on the 60th floor was almost the same as the view from our room on the 55th floor. We turned off the lights in our room for a while and sat on the couch by the window, enjoying the night view with its myriad twinkling lights. It is unrivaled in terms of the celestial feeling you get at a hotel.
The next morning, we woke up around 7:00 a.m. We had breakfast at a restaurant called COOKA on the 19th floor. The restaurant has a casual ambience, and we saw many families with children. Breakfast was buffet style, or you could choose from a set menu that included American breakfast, continental breakfast, and Japanese food. Egg dishes were made to order, with choices of omelets, special omelets, and fried eggs. There are also several sauces to choose from. Check the boxes on the Egg Order Sheet at each table, hand it to staff, and he or she will bring it to your seat.
After breakfast, we wanted to go to the gym on the 38th floor, where we could work out while overlooking Osaka City, but we didn’t have time, so we checked out before 10:00 a.m. and headed to USJ.
Overall, Conrad Osaka is another hotel with rooms on the upper floors, but we felt this hotel was a step above in terms of openness because of the tall buildings around it. The only negative point is that there is no swimming pool, but other than that, we were highly satisfied with the hotel.

Is the location easy to access?
Abeno Harukas, where Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel is located, is easly accessible. It takes about 25 minutes from Osaka Station by train.
It is a 3-minute walk from JR Tennoji Station.
Directly connected to Tennoji Station on the Midosuji Subway Line.
Directly connected to Osaka Abenobashi Station on the Kintetsu Minami-Osaka Line.
If you are visiting by the Shinkansen, get off at Shin Osaka Station and transfer to the Midosuji Subway Line. It takes 22 minutes from Shin Osaka Station to Tennoji Station.
If you take a cab, it will take about 25 minutes from Osaka Station and cost about JPY3500, or 30 minutes from Shin-Osaka Station and cost about JPY4,300.
Then when you take the Shinkansen to Shin Osaka station, you need to be careful about the size of the luggage you bring with you.
When boarding the Tokaido Shinkansen, Sanyo Shinkansen, or Kyushu Shinkansen, passengers are required to reserve a seat with oversized luggage space in advance if the total of the three sides of their baggage exceeds 160cm.
If you bring in oversized luggage without an advance reservation, you will be charged a fee of JPY1,000 including tax to bring in the luggage and place it where the crew designates.
It is important to note that oversized luggage cannot be brought into unreserved seats. If you have a preschool child, you need to purchase a reserved seat ticket for the preschool child.
How about toiletries & in-room amenities?
All of the amenities are taken care of including enough toiletries, bathrobes, pajamas, welcome snacks, chocolates, English tea bags, green tea bags, bottled water, and a coffee machine, etc. There were THANN bath amenities in our bathroom. Room service is available for 24H. There are some convenience stores nearby. The free Wifi reception was good. There was a wide variety of TV programs, including English news programs and sports programs. However, since the model number of the TV was old and not compatible with Smart TV, we could not watch YouTube or Netflix.
Is this child-friendly?
The hotel is child-friendly. Adorable tiger bags, slippers, and toothbrush towels were provided for the children. One child (ages 12 and under) per adult will be free of charge for co-sleep. Breakfast is JPY2,200 for children.
The location of the hotel is also home to many tourist attractions that children can enjoy, such as Abeno Harukas, Tennoji Zoo and Shinsekai. Also, it takes about 30 minutes from the hotel to USJ by train.
How about In-house Facilities?
On the 38th floor, there is a gym available 24 hours a day. You will need to bring your own sports wear and shoes, as they are not available for rent. The gym is not large, but you can work out while enjoying the view of Osaka Bay and the city of Osaka.
There is also a business center on the 38th floor. Printers, copiers, and fax machines are available.
Near the reception desk, there is a foreign currency exchange machine.
A pastry store is located on the 19th floor. The store sells original hotel gifts, TWG tea leaves, alcoholic beverages, and cakes.
Then, this is a perfect universal design hotel. There are some universal rooms and wheelchairs are available for borrowing. If you bring someone with weak legs, you may want to inform the staff in advance as they arrange a room near the lifts.
