Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi

Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi

What kind of 5-star hotel is Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi?

We decided to stay at this hotel because we had an irresistible craving for pizza from the Italian restaurant PIGNETO in the hotel. To get straight to the point, everything was first class. Next time we would like to visit when the cherry blossoms around the Imperial Palace are in full bloom.

We got off at Otemachi subway station around 4:00 p.m. and took exit C4 underground, which directly connects to the hotel, so access was excellent. We arrived at the entrance on the 1st floor, gave our name, and were directed to the lobby floor on the 39th floor. The hospitality was speedy yet heartwarming.

As we stepped down to the reception desk on the 39th floor, a beautiful water basin with a reflection of the bright blue summer sky spread out in front of us. It was truly an urban oasis, and we were instantly drawn into the sophisticated world of the Four Seasons. The contrast with the ever-changing sky was different every moment, and it was an iconic space that we could never get tired of no matter how many times we saw it.

A little further on, we found The Lounge, famous for its afternoon tea. The wonderful view of the Tokyo skyline and the elegant and stylish sense of design attracted us, and our mood for a hotel stay to enjoy an extraordinary feeling was quickly lifted. As we headed to the reception area, we were struck by the vibrant floral arrangements. The floral design was created by a well-known floral designer who has worked on events for high brands both in Japan and abroad. The dynamic and beautiful designs, which changed with the seasons, were soothing. The setting was relaxed and tranquil, without the eccentricity and gaudiness that is so common in newer hotels these days.

After checking in at the reception, we headed to our corner studio room where we would be staying. Upon entering the room, we were greeted by a spacious entrance and an inviting approach to the living room. Continuing down the hallway, the structure consisted of a restroom, bathroom, walk-in closet, and living room. The living room had large windows framed that opened onto a view of the Tokyo cityscape, creating a sense of spaciousness. I felt as if I was floating in the midst of a forest of high-rise buildings. The interior design was unique, with bold wall surfaces and carpets that looked like large, unfurled blue and gray colored fabrics.

A round table was placed in the corner of the room, and through the large window, one could enjoy the futuristic buildings of Otemachi, Tokyo, and the Sky Tree, the symbol of Tokyo, to one’s heart’s content. Welcome fruit and chocolates were provided on the table. We brewed coffee from the coffee machine, sat down in our chairs, sipped our coffee, nibbled on our chocolates, and gazed out the large windows at the metropolis. The chocolate was truly mellow and delicious.

After a while, the sky, which had been bright blue earlier, was gradually covered by thick gray clouds, and suddenly it began to rain heavily. As we watched the rain pouring down with such force that it seemed to beat against the large windows of the building, we felt a sense of a mystical feeling, even though the visibility was not good. It was a quiet and peaceful room with no sound of rain, even though it was raining heavily outside. We did not go outside and just looked at the big city with heavy rain pouring down.

After this we changed into our bathrobes and swimsuits and took a private elevator to the spa-fitness area on 39F. With up-tempo music playing, the openness of this pool overlooking the city of Tokyo was quite amazing. Then even when we were swimming, we could hear the music clearly underwater. Even though it was raining outside, the dull glow of the water’s surface, changing its expression every moment, was beautiful. Alos, the walls and bottom of the swimming pool was made of a smooth metallic material. We found this interesting. The walls and bottom of the pool were mirrors, reflecting the image of me swimming. Also, the lighting reflected off the swimming pool, making it look blue and fantastic. The swimming pool was 20 meters long, with daybeds on both sides of the swimming pool and a modern fireplace. Although we were in the middle of Otemachi, a business district, we felt as if we were at a resort. After swimming in the pool, we enjoyed the communal baths, rain showers, and mist saunas.

After this, we decided to have Italian food at the hotel’s restaurant, Pigneto. We ordered a white wine from Chassagne Montrachet Premier Cru Les Champs Gans. The wine selection was very large compared to other restaurants, and they had an excellent sommelier on staff who understood our wishes in detail. We started with a tuna salad, followed by pasta with squid ink and clams, and then a Margherita pizza and a Blatter pizza, both of which we had always wanted to eat, while sipping our wine. The pizzas were very simple, but the dough had a deep spread of soft wheat flavor, with the perfect acidity of the tomatoes and the richness of the mozzarella cheese. We were so delicious that we had to order another slice of pizza, even though we were full.

Returning to our room, we looked out the window and saw that the rain had eased off. We dimmed the lights in our room and took a moment to admire the night view of Tokyo. The night view through the double-paned windows looked more colorful than usual. Looking at the nearby office buildings, we could see people working in their offices even at night.

The next morning, we woke up before 6:30 a.m. to an endless blue summer sky. When we raised the shades, the morning in Tokyo after the rain was pleasantly refreshing and spectacular. Words cannot describe the openness of the studio room where we stayed. The view made us want to return to this room again.

We decided to take a walk around the Imperial Palace before breakfast. The air was very clear in the early morning. This area has many spots where one would like to take a stroll. Marunouchi’s sophisticated buildings contrast beautifully with the blue sky, and Tokyo Station, with its symbolic red-brick design, always evokes a sense of prestigious history. Then the lawn in front of the Imperial Palace is planted with splendid black pine trees, creating a uniquely Japanese atmosphere. After 7:30, we heard cicadas chirping. The temperature had risen considerably, and the sunlight was getting strong, so we decided to go back to the hotel.

Returning from our walk, we decided to have breakfast at the same restaurant where we had had dinner the night before. The restaurant had a completely different ambiance at night and during the day. With beautiful wooden tables, a modern interior, and stylish background music, the restaurant offered a panoramic view of the city. The view of Tokyo Station, the greenery of the Imperial Palace, and the skyscrapers from the spacious ceiling-to-floor windows could not have been more exhilarating. It was a clear day, so beyond the blue sky, we could even see Mt. Fuji.

Breakfast choices were continental, American, vegan, healthy, Asian, and Japanese. We ordered American. In addition to appetizers, you can order egg dishes, waffles, toast, steak, and salad as your main dish. Other dishes included refreshing yuzu juice with just the right acidity, fresh fruit, yogurt, cranberry Danish, crispy croissants, poached eggs on English muffins with plenty of hollandaise sauce, juicy pork sausage and chicken sausage, and diced potatoes. It was a very satisfying breakfast. There was a blissful breakfast served with a view of the blue sky.

After breakfast, why don’t you have coffee on the restaurant terrace? The staff encouraged us to take seats outside. The view of the big city from the terrace was also really liberating. The sun was shining brightly after the rain, and we had a feeling that it was going to be another hot day. After breakfast, we relaxed by the swimming pool again and checked out before noon. We headed home, hoping to stay again.
