The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho, a Luxury Collection Hotel

The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho, a Luxury Collection Hotel

What kind of hotel is The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho, a Luxury Collection Hotel?

In early December, during the Christmas season, when the autumn leaves were no longer in season and the days were getting colder by the day, my husband and I decided to stay at this hotel in order to attend a friend’s wedding. To get straight to the point, overall, the hotel was cozy and comfortable, with a modern luxury and urban stimulation, but with a gentle ambiance that is somehow not overbearing and typical of Prince Hotels. We especially liked the spacious pool and gym, and the bright, easy-to-use room. Then although the club lounge was not large, we were happy to enjoy the availability of Piper Edosic champagne, beer, and sake at any time from 7:00 to 22:00.

On the day of our visit, we got off at Nagatacho Station, which is directly connected to the hotel, and took exit 9a through the underground passage to arrive at Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho, which houses the hotel. The hotel is located on the 30th to 36th floors of the Tokyo Garden Terrace building, with restaurants and convenience stores on the other floors.

We then took the elevator up to the reception area on the 36th floor. Upon exiting the elevator, we were greeted by the hotel’s iconic, dynamic atrium bar overlooking the metropolis. It was a futuristic bar with a very memorable space that was quite outstanding and avant-garde among the current hotel bars in Tokyo. The day was blessed with clear skies, and the view from here of the clear blue sky and sophisticated buildings was wonderful.

Then, with the bar in front of us, to the right was the reception lobby, which resembled a contemporary art museum. While the bar was a dark, neon-lit “black” space, the lobby lounge, with its compact chairs and warm colors, had a bright, relaxed ambiance. A glittering Christmas tree with candles around it quietly glowed with warm light. The interior design was stunning, with an emphasis on color contrasts. Just as we arrived, the hotel seemed to be near full occupancy, and there were quite a few people in the lobby. We had booked a deluxe room with club lounge access, so we were directed to the club lounge on the 34th floor for check-in.

Upon entering the Club Lounge, there was a magnificent counter on the left as soon as we entered, where we checked in. Afterwards, we seated by the window with a great view and were offered a welcome drink of champagne. Looking up out the large window, the sky seemed closer and wider than usual. The Club Lounge was more compact than we had expected. Since it was a weekend, it was particularly crowded, so much so that at certain times of the day there was a line at the entrance waiting to get in. When we checked in, it was right around tea time. At the buffet counter, there was a selection of panna cotta, apple tart, macaroons, berry shortcake, canele, lemon eclair, pumpkin pudding, queenie amant, amand croissant, amani roll bread, ham and mushroom quiche, three kinds of cookies, Kagi’s chocolate bar, potato chips, snacks, etc. were lined up.

Drinks were served the same all day except during “Cocktail Time”. For example, Junmai Daiginjyo sake, Asahi Super Dry, Kirin beer, Heineken, Masters Dream, Guinness black beer, Genesis, Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Zero, Pepsi Zero, Suntory soda, Perrier, Schweppes tonic water, white peach juice, apple juice, pineapple juice, tea, black oolong tea, mineral water, various Ronnefeldt teas, Italian fruit juices, coffee, etc.

After relaxing in the club lounge for a while, the staff showed us to our room. The first thing we felt when we entered the room was just how bright the room was. We had a good impression that it was a far different atmosphere from the moody ambiance that hotels tend to have with only indirect lighting. The TV was a fairly large screen, but it was designed in such a way that it did not destroy the ambiance of the room, and we did not feel oppressed at all. The wood desk and white desk chair matched the brightly colored walls and carpeting, and gave the room a good sense of style. We felt that this room was a true expression of the Prince Hotel’s character. We thought this room would be perfect for a workation, but unfortunately the WiFi speed was slower than other hotels.

The daybeds placed along the window side had a view toward the Geihinkan and Roppongi, giving the room a sense of openness. Complimentary mineral water, chocolates, and sweets were available on a round glass table placed in front of the daybed. At night, the panoramic night view outside the large windows made us feel as if we were floating above Tokyo. That said, when asked if the view was amazingly spectacular, it was not. Depending on the weather and season, we would recommend other hotels if you want to spend your time with a spectacular view. The location of this hotel means that even if you have a room with a view of Tokyo Tower, you will only be able to see the top of the tower, so you may not get a spectacular view.

After this we took the elevator to the spa and fitness on the 30th floor. Overall, the swimming pool and gym at this hotel were spacious, never crowded, and very comfortable anytime we used them. The poolside, with no people in sight overlooking the blue sky of central Tokyo, reflected the bright blue light and seemed somehow very mystical.

All guests have free access to the swimming pool, Jacuzzi, and gym. Guests staying in Club Floor, Grand Deluxe, and Suite rooms can also use the locker rooms, communal baths, and saunas free of charge. For all other guests, an additional fee of JPY2,500 is required. The minimum age for use is 18 years old.

At the entrance to the spa and fitness center, the room card key was held over a card reader to enter. The lockers are equipped with towels, bathrobes, and slippers, so there was no need to bring anything from the room. In addition, there is an elegant relaxation area with deck chairs by the locker room window, where we could relax and enjoy the night view. A minibar in the locker room provided chilled mineral water and cookies. When we visited the pool around 5:00 p.m., it was just after sunset, and we relaxed in the Jacuzzi next to the pool while gazing at the beautiful sunset view of the buildings in the big city. After a while, it gradually became dark and the lights of the buildings began to glitter brightly. We realized that the view from this hotel was even more spectacular at night than during the day. Looking down from the deck chairs by the pool, we could see Excel Hotel Tokyu, Hie Shrine, and the town of Roppongi beyond. The spacious pool was 20 meters long and had three courses, making it very easy to swim. It also had a small sauna, a cold water bath, and a communal bath. The men’s sauna is a dry sauna and the women’s is a steam sauna. The spacious gym had the latest equipment, which my husband used many times during our stay. Personal training services were also available. Goggles and hats for swimming in the pool are free to borrow, but swimsuits, sportswear, and running shoes can be rented for a fee.

Afterwards, we decided to go to the Club Lounge for Cocktail time. The buffet counter was filled with terrine, escabeche, bacon and spinach quiche, roast beef, foie gras millefeuille, marinated salmon, grilled beef, root vegetable bagna caudauda, campagne, berry shortcake, macarons, camembert, cheddar cheese, and blue cheese, and more were lined up. The cocktail time alcohol included Louis Roederer champagne, Chita whiskey, Prince Selection red and white wines, liqueurs, and more. Overall, the variety of alcohol and food was not large, but the level was high.

After this, we decided to visit the hotel’s iconic Sky Gallery Lounge Levita bar, where we got off the elevator on the 36th floor and descended the spiral staircase to find ourselves in an otherworldly space. The 9-meter-high walls on both sides were decorated with green light to resemble a waterfall. The same pattern was applied to the carpets and yukata in the guest rooms. Counter seating overlooking Tokyo Tower is very popular, so it is a good idea to let them know when making a reservation that you would like counter seating. We decided to first enjoy a glass of Piper Edosic’s beautiful golden champagne while gazing at the kaleidoscopic view of Tokyo changing its expression in the dynamic and different space. We then had a Fragrant Spring cocktail with Earl Grey and Kanade sherry, and a Winter Tone with Kanade yuzu and lemon.

After this, when we returned to our room, we were a little hungry, so we ordered sandwiches and pizza from room service using the IPad installed in the room, and had them while enjoying the night view from the window of the room. You can order room service from a variety of menus, including Japanese, Western, and Chinese, so you can enjoy your meal in the comfort of your room. There is no kids menu.

The next day, we woke up around 7:00 a.m. and decided to go for a walk. The area around the hotel was surrounded by vast green space despite its location in a large city. In front of the Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho building, where the hotel is located, there is a plaza with artwork depicting flowers and butterflies, the old Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka, which was built around 100 years ago, and a park. Since we visited during the winter season, it was cold outside and a chilly wind was blowing. We took a short walk and soon returned to the hotel. However, in spring or fall when the season is good, it is a great place for a walk.

Back at the hotel, we had a buffet breakfast at the restaurant across from the reception. There was a wide variety of food, mostly Western. We could order egg dishes such as foie gras omelette and truffle scrambled eggs. Pancakes were also prepared with a fluffy finish, showing the effort that has been put into the breakfast menu. After breakfast, we returned to our room to relax, checked out before noon, and left the hotel.

Overall, we thought it was the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion, as it is a 5-star luxury hotel for adults.
